# Sinewy Office Furniture The D-Desk by Peter Donders is Futuristic and Alienesque By Meghan Young | Published 2011-09-05 | Art & Design Source: Trend Hunter, https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/d-desk-by-peter-donders References: [plusmood](http://plusmood.com/2011/08/the-d-desk-peter-donders/) & [peterdonders](http://peterdonders.com/) Although the D-Desk by Peter Donders is clearly meant for some kind of [office setting](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/bisley-align), it seems so [surreal and sculptural](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/planar-table) that it would almost be more appropriate to use as a centerpiece for a living or dining room instead. At the same time, however, it wouldn't look out of place in an art gallery. The futuristic, even alienesque, aesthetic of the D-Desk by Peter Donders is owed to its sinewy, web-like details that spill over the edge and make up its strong yet strange supports. It is made out of cast aluminum feet with either a [solid wood or MDF centerpiece](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/model-36). The aluminum legs and MDF center is available in a variety of different colors including red, white and blue. ## Trend Insights (Trend Hunter) - Score: 3.6/10 - Popularity: 68% | Activity: 33% | Freshness: 8% - Audience gender: 50% men, 50% women - Primary generations: Millennial, Gen X - Top markets: North America, Europe, Asia ## Categories [Trend Hunter](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends) > [Art & Design](https://www.trendhunter.com/artdesign) > [Design](https://www.trendhunter.com/design) ## Key Themes ### Why This Trend Is Growing - **Futuristic Office Furniture:** Designing office furniture with a futuristic and alienesque aesthetic presents opportunities for creating unique work environments. - **Sculptural Home Decor:** Using office furniture with a surreal and sculptural design as a centerpiece in living or dining rooms opens up new possibilities for interior decor. - **Artistic Furniture Designs:** Incorporating office furniture with an artistic and gallery-worthy look provides opportunities for showcasing creativity and style in professional spaces. ### Industries Being Reshaped - **Office Furniture Manufacturing:** Manufacturers of office furniture can explore innovative materials and designs to create sinewy and web-like office furniture with a futuristic aesthetic. - **Interior Design:** Interior designers can incorporate sculptural office furniture into residential spaces, blurring the line between home decor and functional work environments. - **Art Galleries:** Art galleries can consider showcasing unique and visually striking office furniture designs that have the potential to become artistic installations. ## Related on Trend Hunter - [Hyper-Customizable Desks](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/hypercustomizable-desk.md) - [Minimalist Monochromatic Desk Designs](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/arqus-desk.md) - [Ultra-Minimalist Elegant Desk Designs](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/elegant-desk-design.md) - [Ultra-Chic Wall Desks](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/wall-desks.md) - [Multilevel Minimalist Office Furniture](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/the-office-table.md) - [Floating Architectural Desk Designs](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/1949-protractor-desk.md) - [Employee Personalization Workstation Furniture](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/zedo-desk.md) - [Sleek Storage-Packed Workstations](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/threesix-desk.md) - [Minimalist Modular Desk Designs](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/console-desk.md)
