# Circular Switch Lighting The Cyclops Lamp by Sander Mulder is Modern and Minimalist By Meghan Young | Published 2012-05-08 | Art & Design Source: Trend Hunter, https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/cyclops-lamp References: [design-milk](http://design-milk.com/cyclops-by-sander-mulder/) & [sandermulder](http://www.sandermulder.com/cyclops.html) The Cyclops Lamp is named after the intriguing shape and placement of its light switch. Set right in the center of the fluorescent-like [tubular light bulbs](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/luno-lamp) and taking the form of a circle, it might seem rather illogical, but instead it is quirky and functional. To turn the Cyclops Lamp on, the user simply needs to pull the center downwards by hooking their fingers into the 'eye.' In this case, the form is the function. Created by the Netherlands-based industrial designer Sander Mulder, the Cyclops Lamp is [minimalist and slightly futuristic](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/delite-20). It is available in anodized black, champagne, silver, or brushed metal finishes and can come with [customized cable colors](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/the-delta-lamp). The Cyclops Lamp is particularly suitable for office settings. Fixed above desks or in corridors, it adds simple class and elegance. ## Trend Insights (Trend Hunter) - Score: 4.5/10 - Popularity: 74% | Activity: 52% | Freshness: 8% - Audience gender: 50% men, 50% women - Primary generations: Millennial, Gen X - Top markets: North America, Europe, Asia ## Categories [Trend Hunter](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends) > [Art & Design](https://www.trendhunter.com/artdesign) > [Design](https://www.trendhunter.com/design) ## Key Themes ### What Makes This Trend Stand Out - **Minimalist Lighting:** Incorporate minimalist designs into lighting fixtures to create a sleek and modern aesthetic. - **Quirky Functionality:** Integrate unconventional yet functional features into products, such as a circular switch in lighting fixtures. - **Customizable Finishes:** Offer customers the option to choose from a variety of finishes to personalize their lighting fixtures. ### Sectors Adopting This - **Interior Design:** Explore the use of minimalist lighting fixtures to enhance interior spaces with a modern touch. - **Office Furniture:** Integrate sleek and minimalist lighting solutions into office settings to create a sophisticated and productive environment. - **Home Decor:** Provide customers with customizable lighting options to match their personal style and home aesthetics. ## Related on Trend Hunter - [Interactive Lamp Designs](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/tangent-lamp.md) - [Socket-Concealing Light Switches](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/l1-switch-system.md) - [Suspended Halo Light Fixtures](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/lamplox-minimalist-floor-lamp.md) - [Flatpack Minimalist Table Lamps](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/the-loop-lamp.md) - [Minimalist Mysterious Lamp Designs](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/auge-light-mini.md) - [Stunningly Minimalist Lighting Designs](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/minimalist-lighting-design.md) - [Calming Orb Lamps](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/orb-lamp1.md) - [Space-Saving Desk Lamps](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/spacesaving-desk-lamp.md) - [Planetary Dual-Illumination Lamps](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/orbis-lamp.md)
