Well, beautiful is subjective. Essentially, the Cyclo-phone is made up of an orchestral instrument that has been hooked up to two [stationary bikes](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/diy-diwheel). Depending on the speed at which these bikes are being pedalled, the music machine plays different sounds and rhythms. Designed by duo Marcelo Ertorteguy and Sara Valente, the Cyclo-phone was created for the Summer Streets 2012 presented by the [Department of Transportation](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/ilocos-empanada) in New York City. Made using off-the-shelf materials, the Cyclo-phone has a rubber flap attached to a bicycle rim which then slaps on eight [PVC pipes](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/rcyl-bike) of varying lengths, held together in a radial configuration by a plastic stock tank. A crafty-looking creation, the Cyclo-phone is both fun and entertaining. ## Trend Insights (Trend Hunter) - Score: 2.1/10 - Popularity: 15% | Activity: 41% | Freshness: 8% - Audience gender: 50% men, 50% women - Primary generations: Gen Z, Millennial, Gen X - Top markets: North America ## Categories [Trend Hunter](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends) > [Lifestyle](https://www.trendhunter.com/lifestyle) > [Sports](https://www.trendhunter.com/sports) ## Key Themes ### What's Driving This Trend - **Bicycle-powered Music:** Opportunity for creating innovative musical instruments using bicycle-powered technology. - **Kinetic Sculptures:** Opportunity for developing sculptures and installations that incorporate kinetic elements powered by human movement. - **Interactive Public Art:** Opportunity for artists and designers to create engaging and participatory art installations in public spaces. ### Who This Affects Most - **Music:** Innovative use of bicycle-powered technology can lead to new experiences and possibilities in the music industry. - **Art:** Integration of kinetic sculptures and interactive public art can disrupt the traditional art industry by offering unique and engaging experiences. - **Event Planning:** Bicycle-powered music machines can add a unique and interactive element to events and festivals, providing an unforgettable experience for attendees. ## Related on Trend Hunter - [Square-Wheeled Bicycles](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/squarewheeled-bicycle.md) - [Oddball Penny-Farthing Bikes](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/pennyfarthing-bike.md) - [Urban Environment Electric Bikes](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/chord.md) - [Musical-Themed Kinetic Structures](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/daydreamer.md) - [Digital Cyclist Bell Accessories](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/trek-bellbeats.md) - [Compact Foldable City Bikes](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/pop-cycle.md) - [Lightweight Four-Wheeled Bikes](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/activcycle.md) - [Feline-Friendly Music Accessories](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/cat-music-box.md) - [Kinetic Musical Benches](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/musical-bench.md)
