# Handwriting Keyboards The 'Lazy Pen' Lets Users Create Custom Typeface That Looks Like Cursive By Cadhla Gray | Published 2015-10-15 | Updated 2015-10-17 | Art & Design Source: Trend Hunter, https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/custom-typeface References: [booooooom](http://www.booooooom.com/2015/10/14/keyboard-modification-allows-typing-with-the-flair-of-handwriting/) & [nahornyj](http://nahornyj.com/) This clever keyboard allows users to create a custom typeface that looks like personalized handwriting. Called the 'Lazy Pen,' the keyboard system tracks [wrist movement while typing](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/flow-keyboard) that is then visualized in the slant, shape and size of the cursive letters on the screen. The [keyboard extension](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/autokeybo) has two plastic bands on which to rest your wrists while typing. They move side to side and up and down in order to modulate your "writing" and create unique custom typeface. As wrists raise or shift, a software system translates the movements into variations in font. As modernity has brought a lack of personalization, Nicholas Nahornyj aims to bring a little bit back with [nostalgic handwritten letters](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/textor) that can be created while using the comfort and ease of modern technology. ## Trend Insights (Trend Hunter) - Score: 5.2/10 - Popularity: 67% | Activity: 81% | Freshness: 8% - Audience gender: 50% men, 50% women - Primary generations: Gen Z, Millennial - Top markets: North America, Europe, Asia ## Categories [Trend Hunter](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends) > [Art & Design](https://www.trendhunter.com/artdesign) > [Design](https://www.trendhunter.com/design) ## Key Themes ### What Makes This Trend Stand Out - **Custom Typeface:** The Lazy Pen keyboard allows users to create a custom typeface that looks like personalized handwriting, presenting an opportunity for businesses to offer a new way to refresh brand imaging with customized fonts. - **Personalization:** As modern technology has brought a lack of personalization, the Lazy Pen keyboard presents an opportunity to personalize text and written communication again, giving businesses the opportunity to provide unique, intimate experiences. - **Wrist-tracking:** Wrist tracking tech in the Lazy Pen keyboard creates variations in font through wrist movement, an innovation disruptive to the keyboard industry and presents opportunities in wearable tech. ### Sectors Adopting This - **Keyboard Manufacturing:** The Lazy Pen keyboard poses a disruptive innovation to keyboard manufacturing, presenting opportunities for keyboard development companies to incorporate wrist tracking technology into their products. - **Wearable Tech:** The wrist-tracking technology used in the Lazy Pen keyboard presents opportunities for businesses in wearable tech, with the potential to incorporate this technology into clothing or accessories. - **Brand Imaging and Marketing:** The custom typeface generated by the Lazy Pen keyboard presents opportunities to refresh brand imaging with personalized font, presenting opportunities in the marketing and advertising industry. ## Related on Trend Hunter - [Electronic Ink Keyboard Peripherals](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/gauge-keyboard.md) - [Distraction-Free Digital Keyboards](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/micro-journal.md) - [Digital Handwriting Tools](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/kindly-ink.md) - [Dental Instrument-Inspired Pens](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/handwriting-tool.md) - [Digital Handwriting Tools](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/handtextai.md) - [Compact Cushioned Keyboard Peripherals](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/hue-bluetooth-keyboard.md) - [Customizable Designer Keyboards](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/creator-board.md) - [Glove-Like Keyboard Peripherals](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/glove80-keyboard.md) - [Rotary Dial Keyboards](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/gboard-dial.md)
