# Customized Camouflaging Techniques This Custom Camouflage Tech Can Be Used to Hide Urban Eyesores By Rahul Kalvapalle | Published 2014-05-23 | Tech Source: Trend Hunter, https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/custom-camouflage References: [gizmodo](http://gizmodo.com/mit-developed-a-camouflage-generator-that-can-hide-almo-1580057671) & [newsoffice.mit.edu](http://newsoffice.mit.edu/2014/algorithms-produce-patterns-that-could-hide-public-eyesores-0521) Researchers at [MIT](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/xar) have developed what they call a custom camouflage algorithm that generates camouflage patterns that allow objects to be blend into any surroundings, and not only military-associated settings like jungles, deserts and mountains. The technology will be able to utilize a series of images -- captured at various objects around the object that is to be hidden -- to generate a camouflage pattern that can be converted into a physical covering. This could be useful to hide urban eyesores such as [electrical boxes in nice green parks](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/wyze-cam-vase) or a rusty air conditioner sticking out of a beautiful historical building. The custom camouflage technology is intended to make objects less noticeable at a glance. Tests conducted by the researchers found that objects hidden by these algorithms took more than three seconds to find. ## Trend Insights (Trend Hunter) - Score: 1.8/10 - Popularity: 6% | Activity: 40% | Freshness: 8% - Audience gender: 70% men, 30% women - Primary generations: Millennial, Gen X - Top markets: North America ## Categories [Trend Hunter](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends) > [Tech](https://www.trendhunter.com/tech) > [AI](https://www.trendhunter.com/ai) ## Key Themes ### What Makes This Trend Stand Out - **Custom Camouflage Algorithms:** Disruptive innovation opportunity: Developers can create advanced software and algorithms to generate custom camouflage patterns for various objects and settings. - **Urban Camouflaging:** Disruptive innovation opportunity: Companies can develop physical coverings and materials that utilize camouflage patterns to hide urban eyesores and blend them into the surrounding environment. - **Enhanced Object Concealment:** Disruptive innovation opportunity: Innovators can explore technologies that make objects less noticeable at a glance by utilizing advanced camouflage techniques and materials. ### Sectors Adopting This - **Defense and Military:** Disruptive innovation opportunity: Companies in this industry can leverage custom camouflage algorithms to enhance military concealment and protective capabilities. - **Architecture and Urban Planning:** Disruptive innovation opportunity: Professionals in this industry can use urban camouflage technology to conceal unsightly elements in urban landscapes and preserve aesthetics. - **Outdoor Equipment and Design:** Disruptive innovation opportunity: Manufacturers in this industry can incorporate custom camouflage materials and coverings into outdoor products to improve their blending capabilities in natural environments. ## Related on Trend Hunter - [Optical Illusion Invisibility Boards](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/invisibility-shield.md) - [Camouflage-Print Technical Fashion](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/grottoflage.md) - [Artful Camo Fashion](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/skylrk-camo.md) - [Adaptive Color Workstations](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/chameleon-workplace.md) - [Sculptural Surveillance Concepts](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/sculptural-surveillance.md) - [Eye-Tracking Privacy Apps](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/privacy-apps.md) - [Green Tile Garden Studios](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/kimoflage.md) - [Photo Redaction Tools](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/camouflage-for-ios.md) - [Novel Home Security Concepts](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/home-security-concept.md)
