The design firm of [Skidmore, Owings & Merrill](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/jpmorgan-chase), was responsible for the site-specific door that also doubles as a wall. During the day and early evening, the door will remain open to allow for foot traffic from the upstairs and downstairs. When the building is closed, the door curves around the staircase acting as a barrier, blending in beautifully with the existing wavy glass walls in the building. The transparent glass door is a good example of an increasing pattern of [functional and multipurpose furniture](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/blooming-shed). Not only are homes optimizing on multiple-use pieces, it seems as though commercial spaces are as well. ## Trend Insights (Trend Hunter) - Score: 2.8/10 - Popularity: 65% | Activity: 11% | Freshness: 8% - Audience gender: 50% men, 50% women - Primary generations: Gen Z, Millennial, Gen X - Top markets: North America ## Categories [Trend Hunter](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends) > [Art & Design](https://www.trendhunter.com/artdesign) > [Design](https://www.trendhunter.com/design) ## Key Themes ### Why This Trend Is Growing - **Functional and Multipurpose Furniture:** The transparent glass door exemplifies the trend of functional and multipurpose furniture, as it serves as both a door and a wall. ### Industries Being Reshaped - **Interior Design:** The trend of functional and multipurpose furniture presents disruptive innovation opportunities in the interior design industry. ## Related on Trend Hunter - [Curvaceous Privacy Wall Homes](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/kwk-promes-open-house.md) - [Chic Curved Houses](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/curved-house1.md) - [Redesigned Curved Apartments](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/taichung-apartment.md) - [Curved Translucent Experimental Apartments](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/sculptors-apartment.md) - [Vertical Wooden Louvre Stations](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/saintdenis-pleyel-station.md) - [Innovative Customizable Door Systems](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/customizable-door-system.md) - [Monochromatic Sculptural Gateways](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/sculptural-gateway.md) - [Transforming Umbrella Stands](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/split-1.md) - [Wavy Dual-Action Mirrors](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/archvyli.md)
