# Crafty Fairylike Furniture Marcel Wanders's Crochet Table Looks Like an Art Piece By Meghan Young | Published 2011-07-29 | Art & Design Source: Trend Hunter, https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/crochet-table References: [bookofjoe](http://www.bookofjoe.com/2011/07/marcel-wanders-crochet-table-episode-2-price-break.html) & [marcelwanders.nl](http://www.marcelwanders.nl/wanders/pages/tables-crochet_1_3_grouppage.shtml) Even though the Crochet Table should be used as a piece of furniture, I can't help but look at it as a piece of art. Beautifully ethereal, this table appears as though it could only be enjoyed by a fairy family. Considering that the Crochet Table looks so fragile, it would definitely make a great piece of decor for any home. Designed by Marcel Wanders for furniture manufacturer Moooi, the Crochet Table is nevertheless resilient enough to be used if people chose to do so. Wanders expertly weaved cotton to create this piece's enchanting aesthetic, stiffening it with resin to maintain its shape and sturdiness. It appears to match a similar [seat](http://www.trendhunter.com/trends/lace-furniture-the-crochet-chair) that he had designed back in 2006. ## Trend Insights (Trend Hunter) - Score: 5.4/10 - Popularity: 64% | Activity: 91% | Freshness: 8% - Audience gender: 30% men, 70% women - Primary generations: Millennial - Top markets: North America, Europe, Asia ## Categories [Trend Hunter](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends) > [Art & Design](https://www.trendhunter.com/artdesign) > [Design](https://www.trendhunter.com/design) ## Key Themes ### What Makes This Trend Stand Out - **Ethereal Furniture:** There is an opportunity for disruptive innovation in creating ethereal furniture that blurs the line between art and function. - **Craft-inspired Design:** Craft-inspired furniture designs offer a chance for disruptive innovation in the industry by showcasing intricate and unique craftsmanship. - **Resilient Materials in Furniture:** Utilizing resilient materials in furniture design presents an opportunity for disruptive innovation, allowing for delicate and artistic pieces that are also durable and functional. ### Sectors Adopting This - **Furniture Manufacturing:** The furniture manufacturing industry can explore disruptive innovation by incorporating craft-inspired designs and resilient materials into their products. - **Home Decor:** The home decor industry can embrace disruptive innovation by incorporating ethereal furniture designs into their product offerings, blurring the lines between art and function. - **Art and Design:** Opportunities for disruptive innovation can be found in the art and design industry through the creation of furniture pieces that act as art pieces and functional decor. ## Related on Trend Hunter - [Candy-Like Glossy Furniture](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/luis-gimeno.md) - [Expertly Woven Side Tables](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/wicker-side-table.md) - [Paper-Like Coffee Tables](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/cocoon-coffee-table.md) - [Cloud-Inspired Furniture Designs](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/cloud-tables1.md) - [Playful Wavy Table Designs](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/wavy-table-design.md) - [Mycelium-Based Artful Tables](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/ephemeral-table.md) - [Japandi-Style Coffee Tables](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/cloth-coffee-table.md) - [Extravagant Handcrafted Furniture](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/handcrafted-furniture.md) - [Wavy Sculptural Coffee Tables](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/sculptural-coffee-tables.md)
