# Split Open Fixtures The Crevice Lamp Only Emits Light From a Slice Down One Side By Amelia Roblin | Published 2013-12-13 | Art & Design Source: Trend Hunter, https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/crevice-lamp References: [designspotter](http://www.designspotter.com/product/2013/12/CREVICE-lamp.html) & [mariaaltukhova](http://mariaaltukhova.com/en/concepts/itemlist/category/20-crevice_lamp.html) Can you picture that experience of being inside of a pitch black room and looking towards a slightly opened door through which bright light pours in? This is precisely the image that inspired the Crevice Lamp. The contemporary light fixture takes the archetypal, yet somewhat stylized, silhouette of a table lamp with a lampshade, yet it emits its glow in a very unusual way. Maria Altukhova sculpted the piece as a voluptuous three dimensional form, expressing elegant curvatures and rounded edges in the glossy ebony material. Now angle the object appropriately and you'll see a gaping slit down one side, from top to bottom. Inside is a bright whitewashed finish that encourages the reflection of installed LEDs. Despite its inspiration, the Crevice Lamp creates ambient rather than harsh illumination. ## Trend Insights (Trend Hunter) - Score: 1.9/10 - Popularity: 29% | Activity: 21% | Freshness: 8% - Audience gender: 50% men, 50% women - Primary generations: Gen Z, Millennial, Gen X - Top markets: North America, Europe ## Categories [Trend Hunter](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends) > [Art & Design](https://www.trendhunter.com/artdesign) > [Design](https://www.trendhunter.com/design) ## Key Themes ### Why This Trend Is Growing - **Contemporary Lighting:** The trend of contemporary lighting focuses on innovative and unconventional designs that create unique lighting experiences. - **Unconventional Illumination:** The trend of unconventional illumination explores alternative ways of emitting light, challenging traditional lamp designs. - **Reflective Finishes:** The trend of reflective finishes incorporates materials and finishes that enhance the reflection of light, creating an ambient and soothing atmosphere. ### Industries Being Reshaped - **Interior Design:** The interior design industry can leverage these trends to create captivating lighting installations that enhance the overall aesthetic of spaces. - **Lighting Manufacturing:** The lighting manufacturing industry has an opportunity to produce innovative fixtures that deviate from traditional designs and offer unique lighting experiences. - **Home Decor Retail:** The home decor retail industry can cater to the demand for unconventional lighting by offering a wide range of contemporary and unique fixtures. ## Related on Trend Hunter - [Hollow Candle-Like Table Lamps](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/lampe.md) - [Perforated LED Table Lights](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/lume.md) - [Simplistic Angular Desktop Illuminators](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/linear-table-lamp.md) - [Archetypal Conical Light Designs](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/fragile-lamp.md) - [Sculptural Glass Lamps](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/tuloa.md) - [Sculptural Wooden Lamps](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/arc-lamp.md) - [Scenic Architecture Lamps](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/architecture-inspired-table-lamp.md) - [Brutalist Bedside Illuminators](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/vestige-lamp.md) - [Chic Saucer-Shaped Illuminators](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/light-in-tight-light-fixture.md)
