Designed by architect Kendrick Bangs Kellogg, this residence located in Joshua Tree, California is the ultimate in creative modern architecture. Looking harmoniously at ease in the dry desert, the residence looks like dinosaur bones long forgotten. With a protective shell exterior to epitomize rugged masculine strength on the outside and a feminine and warm interior design created by interior designer John Vugrin, the residence is the perfect balance of organic architecture. Using a lot of concrete, steel, glass and copper for the interiors, Vugrin was able to make the space genuinely livable and comforting as well as making it blend in with its exterior rocky surroundings. ## Trend Insights (Trend Hunter) - Score: 3.8/10 - Popularity: 82% | Activity: 23% | Freshness: 8% - Audience gender: 50% men, 50% women - Primary generations: Millennial, Gen X - Top markets: North America ## Categories [Trend Hunter](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends) > [Art & Design](https://www.trendhunter.com/artdesign) > [Design](https://www.trendhunter.com/design) ## Key Themes ### What's Driving This Trend - **Organic Architecture:** Opportunity for architects and designers to create structures that harmonize with natural surroundings, like this residence in Joshua Tree, California. - **Modern Architecture:** Potential for innovative designs that push the boundaries of creativity and aesthetics, exemplified by this architectural feat. - **Harmonious Design:** Demand for interior designs that achieve a balance between functionality and visual appeal, as demonstrated by the warm and comforting interior of this residence. ### Who This Affects Most - **Architecture:** Opportunity for architects to explore new design approaches that integrate with the environment and create visually stunning structures. - **Interior Design:** Potential for interior designers to create spaces that complement the exterior environment while providing comfort and livability. - **Construction Materials:** Demand for sustainable and durable materials, such as concrete, steel, glass, and copper, that can be used in both exterior and interior designs. ## Related on Trend Hunter - [Desert Landscape Residences](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/juniper-hill-home.md) - [Earthy Off-Grid Textural Homes](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/folly-mojave.md) - [Desert-Nestled Home Studios](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/high-desert-home.md) - [Sculpted Oak Grove Houses](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/lj-residence.md) - [Cave-Like Folded Residences](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/wild-house.md) - [Brutalist Jungle Sanctuaries](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/john-dessarzin-jungle-sanctuary.md) - [Cantilevered Mountain Residences](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/brutal-honesty.md) - [Water Basin-Based Modern Residences](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/red-rock.md) - [Textured Mid-Century Houses](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/highland-park-residence.md)
