# Mini Robot Lighting The Craft System Lamps Collection is like One Big Happy Family By Meghan Young | Published 2012-05-25 | Art & Design Source: Trend Hunter, https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/craft-system-lamps References: [psfk](http://www.psfk.com/2012/05/playful-robotic-lamps-wanted-design.html) & [umproject](http://umproject.com/) There is no light fixture out there that has as much adorable personality as the ones making up the [Craft System Lamps](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/the-alan) collection. Shaped like a bunch of mini robots, each of which could easily replace all of the minor characters starring in the [Pixar](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/animationinspired-led-lamp) film 'WALL-E,' the collection is like one big [retro-futuristic family](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/robert-abbey-fine-lighting). Designed by François Chambard of UM Project, a furniture design company based in Brooklyn, New York, the Craft System Lamps collection is comprised of 13 custom creations. No two are alike, just as it would be in a real family. Nevertheless, they do boast some similarities such as their tapered cube-like shapes and Corian bases. Each one took a couple of days to manufacture. The Craft System Lamps collection was showcased during the 2012 New York Design Week. ## Trend Insights (Trend Hunter) - Score: 3.4/10 - Popularity: 50% | Activity: 45% | Freshness: 8% - Audience gender: 50% men, 50% women - Primary generations: Gen Z, Millennial, Gen X - Top markets: North America, Europe, Asia ## Categories [Trend Hunter](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends) > [Art & Design](https://www.trendhunter.com/artdesign) > [Design](https://www.trendhunter.com/design) ## Key Themes ### Why This Trend Is Growing - **Robot-shaped Lighting:** Opportunity to create unique and playful lighting designs inspired by robots. - **Customizable Lighting Collections:** Innovation in creating lighting designs that are completely unique and customized. - **Retro-futuristic Design:** Opportunity to bring back a vintage look with a modern twist, reminiscent of futuristic themes like that seen in WALL-E. ### Industries Being Reshaped - **Interior Design:** This trend can disrupt the interior design industry by offering unique options for lighting fixtures. - **Furniture Design:** Customizable lighting collections can disrupt the furniture design industry by offering bespoke design options. - **Toy Manufacturing:** Opportunity to utilize similar designs to create unique toys for children (and adults) inspired by retro-futuristic robots. ## Related on Trend Hunter - [Human-Made Lamp Collections](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/i-am-not-a-robot-lamp-collection.md) - [Retro-Tinged Compact Lamps](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/lari-mini.md) - [Playful Brick-Born Lighting](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/analog-lamps-1.md) - [Solar System-Inspired Lighting Series](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/cosmooval.md) - [Animation-Inspired LED Lamps](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/animationinspired-led-lamp.md) - [Infinitely Expandable Light Fixtures](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/cube-one-table-lamp.md) - [Stunningly Minimalist Lighting Designs](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/minimalist-lighting-design.md) - [Structural Modular Lighting Systems](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/cube-one-table.md) - [Futuristic Totemic Lighting Series](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/space-relics.md)
