Created for a family that likes to spend the holidays close to the forest, this cozy lakeside cabin by Finnish architect Tuukka Vuori, from design firm Playa Architects, is a rustic haven. Located in Finland, this 122-square-metre woodland cabin focuses on the living and dining room instead of the bedrooms -- the family area takes up around half of the house's floorspace. Built right on the edge of a lake in Hirvensalmi, the Birch-clad house is inspired by the family's Scandinavian heritage. Using a bevy of different textures for the interior walls and ceilings, the house is made using birch, alder and pine from the family's own sawmill. ## Trend Insights (Trend Hunter) - Score: 2.0/10 - Popularity: 39% | Activity: 12% | Freshness: 8% - Audience gender: 50% men, 50% women - Primary generations: Millennial, Gen X - Top markets: Europe ## Categories [Trend Hunter](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends) > [Art & Design](https://www.trendhunter.com/artdesign) > [Design](https://www.trendhunter.com/design) ## Key Themes ### What's Driving This Trend - **Family-focused Getaways:** Designing vacation homes with a focus on communal areas over bedrooms creates opportunities for social interaction and bonding. - **Sustainable Woodworking:** Using locally sourced wood from a family sawmill can create a unique selling point for vacation homes, promoting environmental stewardship in the design industry. - **Scandinavian-inspired Architecture:** Designing homes that reflect cultural heritage, while incorporating modern amenities, can attract travelers seeking a unique and personalized experience. ### Who This Affects Most - **Hospitality:** Hotels and vacation rentals can focus on communal areas and sustainable design to attract travelers seeking social interaction and environmentally conscious accommodations. - **Construction:** Designers, architects, and construction companies can seek out locally sourced materials and cultural inspiration to create unique and personalized vacation homes and rental properties. - **Tourism:** Tourism boards can promote vacation homes and rental properties that incorporate cultural heritage, environmentally friendly practices, and family-focused design as a way to increase tourism in a given region. ## Related on Trend Hunter - [Tranquil Nature-Centric Cabin Designs](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/nortehaus.md) - [Countryside Woodland Cabin Designs](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/aralar-cottage.md) - [Dark-Green Minimal Cabins](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/scalar-architecture.md) - [Rustic Forest Timber Cabins](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/rever-drage.md) - [Forest Retreat Cabins](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/oculus.md) - [Artistic Lakeside Retreats](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/ely-retreat.md) - [Black-Stained Wooden Cabins](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/smoke-lake-cabin.md) - [Circular Windowed Woodland Cabins](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/timber-nest.md) - [Waterside Retreat Designs](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/bora-boral.md)
