# Invisible Magnetic Locks Covert by Quirky Remains Undetectable Once Installed By Meghan Young | Published 2012-01-16 | Updated 2012-01-18 | Art & Design Source: Trend Hunter, https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/covert-by-quirky References: [gizmodo](http://gizmodo.com/5876136/quirkys-invisible-drawer-locks-only-open-with-a-magnetic-key) & [quirky](http://www.quirky.com/products/90-Covert-Magnetic-Lock?r=4f9bec46c9b7fffc1f8dc18812a960ed#) Covert by Quirky is a clever [locking system](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/lock-ultra) that remains invisible to the eyes. Although it seems like it would be something that the military developed, it is actually a very simple system. It is basically a sliding mechanism that is controlled by a [magnetic key](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/ultraloq-latch-5). Easily installable, Covert by Quirky comes in two parts: the key and the latch. The lock has an adhesive back that allows it to stick to any surface temporarily. It can also be screwed in for added security. Once placed within the [drawer it is meant to protect](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/otis-hanger-30), it remains undetectable. Unfortunately, because of the magnets, it will only work through certain wood thicknesses. Also, once the lock is discovered, any magnet can open it up. ## Trend Insights (Trend Hunter) - Score: 3.2/10 - Popularity: 41% | Activity: 48% | Freshness: 8% - Audience gender: 50% men, 50% women - Primary generations: Gen Z, Millennial, Gen X - Top markets: North America ## Categories [Trend Hunter](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends) > [Art & Design](https://www.trendhunter.com/artdesign) > [Design](https://www.trendhunter.com/design) ## Key Themes ### What Makes This Trend Stand Out - **Invisible Locking Systems:** Disruptive innovation opportunity: Develop advanced invisible locking systems that are not limited by wood thickness and cannot be easily opened by any magnet. - **Simplified Security Mechanisms:** Disruptive innovation opportunity: Create simplified security mechanisms that are easy to install and undetectable once placed. - **Innovative Magnetic Key Technology:** Disruptive innovation opportunity: Invent innovative magnetic key technologies that provide secure and covert access to locked compartments. ### Sectors Adopting This - **Home Security:** Disruptive innovation opportunity: Revolutionize the home security industry by developing more reliable and undetectable lock systems. - **Furniture Manufacturing:** Disruptive innovation opportunity: Integrate invisible locking mechanisms into furniture manufacturing processes for enhanced security and convenience. - **Retail Security Systems:** Disruptive innovation opportunity: Enhance retail security systems by incorporating invisible lock technology to prevent theft and unauthorized access. ## Related on Trend Hunter - [Easily Installed Intelligent Locks](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/securaki.md) - [Next-Level Digital Lock Solutions](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/proximkey.md) - [Smart Lock Boxes](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/robern-iq-digital-lock-box.md) - [Easy-to-Use Smart Locks](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/switchbot.md) - [Discreet Retrofit Smart Locks](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/yale-linus-smart-lock-2-lite.md) - [Hidden Seat Bike Locks](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/lockinvisible.md) - [Adaptable Key Lock Designs](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/advanced-rekey.md) - [Discreet Folding Shelf Designs](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/folding-shelf.md) - [Pocket-Sized Safety Locks](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/gaze.md)
