# Carousel Cottage Design This Playful Holiday Home Architecture Will Leave Your Head Spinning By Alyson Wyers | Published 2014-05-06 | Art & Design Source: Trend Hunter, https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/cottage-design References: [design-milk](http://design-milk.com/merry-go-round-in-the-netherlands-by-bureau-ira-koers/) & [irakoers.nl](http://www.irakoers.nl) This [carousel inspired cottage design](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/borova-lada-cottage) redefines what vacation getaways look like. Designed by Dutch design studio Bureau Ira Koer, Merry-Go-Round is a four sided structure intended to provide an answer to 'a different typology for [temporary occupation](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/sommarhus-e).' Rather than making it look like a prison cell, the barred architecture gives the holiday home a playful feel. Breaking away from standard cottage design, the rooms are situated in order to make one big square in the middle and all rooms open to a single central hall that wraps around the entire house. This, too, gives the effect of a carousel as the temporary residents have to move in circles to get around. This is in addition to the [floor length windows](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/beaufort-bushland-retreat) that offer the abode plenty of natural light. ## Trend Insights (Trend Hunter) - Score: 1.8/10 - Popularity: 27% | Activity: 19% | Freshness: 8% - Audience gender: 70% men, 30% women - Primary generations: Millennial, Gen X - Top markets: Europe ## Categories [Trend Hunter](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends) > [Art & Design](https://www.trendhunter.com/artdesign) > [Home](https://www.trendhunter.com/home) ## Key Themes ### What's Driving This Trend - **Playful Architecture:** Opportunities to disrupt traditional architectural designs by incorporating playful elements and unconventional room layouts in vacation homes and rental properties. - **Circular Room Arrangements:** Opportunities to reimagine room arrangement in homes, offices, and public spaces by utilizing circular layouts that encourage movement and engage visitors in a unique way. - **Interactive Building Features:** Opportunities to introduce interactive building features, such as floor length windows and central halls, that enhance the user experience and provide a sense of novelty and intrigue. ### Who This Affects Most - **Vacation Home Rentals:** Incorporating unique and playful architectural designs in vacation homes and rental properties can enhance guest experiences and increase bookings. - **Architecture and Interior Design:** Architects and interior designers can take inspiration from the circular room layout and playful features of Merry-Go-Round to create innovative designs in homes, offices, and public spaces. - **Tourism and Hospitality:** Tourism and hospitality professionals can embrace the trend of playful architecture to create unique and memorable guest experiences that differentiate their offerings from competitors. ## Related on Trend Hunter - [Charming Traditional Tiny Homes](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/la-maison-du-bonheur.md) - [Transformed Colorful Holiday Homes](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/gdr-bungalow.md) - [Landscape-Integrated Holiday Homes](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/plener-istebna.md) - [Hat-Shaped Metal-Topped Holiday Cabins](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/hee-house.md) - [Inversion Living Concepts](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/tiny-getaway.md) - [Picturesque Modern Holiday Homes](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/ligar-bay-bach.md) - [Architectural Archetype-Themed Homes](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/house-r.md) - [Natural Material Scottish Cottages](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/iorram.md) - [Figure 8-Structured House](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/the-loop-house.md)
