# Flexible Transformative Furniture The Coskucan GURUN Blank Canvas is Extremely Adjustable By Josh Triantafilou | Published 2012-05-17 | Art & Design Source: Trend Hunter, https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/coskucan-gurun References: [industrialdesignserved](http://www.industrialdesignserved.com/gallery/Blank-Canvas/2706183) & [coskucan](http://www.coskucan.com/) There is plenty of [adjustable furniture](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/eduba) out there but few of the designs come even close to the degree of flexibility the 'Blank Canvas' from Coskucan GURUN offers. When not in use, the furniture is simply a two-dimensional black piece of fabric stretched between the bars of a metal support frame. The canvas connects to the frame through strings that can be adjusted to shape the fabric into different forms. In this sense, the furniture truly is a blank canvas. It can be [contorted into a chair](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/flipster-seat), [molded into a shelf](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/tumba) or even made into a practically useless, but aesthetically interesting abstract shape. Indeed, Coskucan GURUN intended the concept to be just as much an objet d'art as a functional piece of furniture. On his Behance page, the designer explains that the project looks to examine anonymity, identity and ambiguity in object form. ## Trend Insights (Trend Hunter) - Score: 5.0/10 - Popularity: 61% | Activity: 80% | Freshness: 8% - Audience gender: 50% men, 50% women - Primary generations: Gen Z, Millennial, Gen X - Top markets: Europe ## Categories [Trend Hunter](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends) > [Art & Design](https://www.trendhunter.com/artdesign) > [Design](https://www.trendhunter.com/design) ## Key Themes ### Why This Trend Is Growing - **Adjustable Furniture:** The degree of flexibility offered by the 'Blank Canvas' from Coskucan GURUN presents opportunities for disrupting the traditional furniture industry. - **Multi-functional Design:** The 'Blank Canvas' can be molded into different forms, opening up possibilities for disruptive innovation in the home decor industry. - **Art-inspired Furniture:** The 'Blank Canvas' blurs the line between art and functional furniture, creating potential for disruptive innovation in the art and design industry. ### Industries Being Reshaped - **Furniture:** The adjustable and multi-functional design of the 'Blank Canvas' presents opportunities for disruption in the furniture industry. - **Home Decor:** The versatile nature of the 'Blank Canvas' opens up disruptive innovation possibilities in the home decor industry. - **Art and Design:** The art-inspired concept of the 'Blank Canvas' offers disruptive potential in the art and design industry. ## Related on Trend Hunter - [Versatile Modular Couches](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/transformer-couch-20.md) - [Adaptive Furniture Systems](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/expand-furniture.md) - [Resourceful Multifunctional Furniture](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/chameleon-furniture.md) - [Transforming Workspace Furniture Designs](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/asytron-furniture.md) - [Modular Flatpack Furniture Designs](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/opoo-multifunctional-furniture.md) - [Expanding Three-in-One Furniture](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/expandy.md) - [Dynamic Sculptural Tables](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/interactive-transformation-table.md) - [Multifunctional Sleek Furniture](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/flex-furniture.md) - [Interchangeable Cushion Furniture](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/morfius-modular-furniture.md)
