# Coastal Timber Homes The Cornwall Retreat Brings a Quiet, Landscape-Driven Residential Design By Amy Duong | Published 2025-11-18 | Art & Design Source: Trend Hunter, https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/cornwall-retreat References: [deroseesa](https://www.deroseesa.com/) The Cornwall Retreat brings a quiet, landscape-driven residential design through a series of [pitched timber volumes](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/the-lookout) set above the Cornish coastline. The house uses a mix of lime render, dark-framed glazing and [natural wood cladding](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/thornbury-house) to reference local building traditions while creating a clean contemporary profile. Inside, wide oak flooring, clay and lime-painted walls and a limestone fireplace establish a calm material palette. Vaulted ceilings and rooflights bring natural light deep into the plan, and a surf room with terrazzo finishes aligns the layout with daily coastal routines. The project emphasises modest street presence while expanding toward sea views through carefully positioned openings and stepped landscaping. Wildflower plantings and stone paths guide movement to the cliff edge, reinforcing the connection between architecture and terrain. The retreat focuses on durable materials, simple forms and a relaxed spatial sequence suited to [year-round coastal living](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/pretpec).
