# Lonely Single-Item Ledges Corniches Fulfill the Need for Informal Storage of Individual Objects By Amelia Roblin | Published 2013-01-18 | Art & Design Source: Trend Hunter, https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/corniches References: [blog.leibal](http://blog.leibal.com/furniture/corniches/) & [vitra](http://www.vitra.com/en-us/home/products/corniches/overview/) It is all well and good to have a large bookcase with broad ledges to store a wide variety of different objects, but there is a poetry to these delightful Corniches that emphasizes the unique qualities of individual items. Designed by brothers Ronan and Erwan Bouroullec, the collection of [floating shelves](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/folding-shelf) comes with all shapes and sizes to best suit a diverse range of domestic odds and ends. The smooth and somewhat organically sculpted pieces have been made from acrylonitrile butadiene styrene (ABS) with asymmetrical rounded bases and perfectly flat tops. The [wall-mounted Corniches](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/pli-steel-wall-shelf) are best installed in [random clusters](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/original-modern-shelving) to act as playful pedestals, celebrating everyday doodads in the way that they deserve. ## Trend Insights (Trend Hunter) - Score: 1.4/10 - Popularity: 28% | Activity: 7% | Freshness: 8% - Audience gender: 50% men, 50% women - Primary generations: Gen Z, Gen Alpha, Millennial, Gen X - Top markets: Europe ## Categories [Trend Hunter](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends) > [Art & Design](https://www.trendhunter.com/artdesign) > [Design](https://www.trendhunter.com/design) ## Key Themes ### Why This Trend Is Growing - **Individual Object Storage:** The trend of individual object storage emphasizes the unique qualities of each item. - **Asymmetrical Design:** The trend of asymmetrical design showcases sculpted pieces with rounded bases and flat tops. - **Playful Pedestals:** The trend of playful pedestals celebrates everyday doodads in a lighthearted way. ### Industries Being Reshaped - **Home Organization:** The home organization industry can capitalize on individual object storage by providing customizable storage solutions. - **Furniture Design:** The furniture design industry can explore asymmetrical design to create unique and visually appealing pieces. - **Interior Decor:** The interior decor industry can incorporate playful pedestals to add a touch of whimsy and personality to spaces. ## Related on Trend Hunter - [Abstract Jigsaw-Like Shelving](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/spectator-shelf.md) - [Customizable Style-Conscious Shelving](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/ledoux-modular-shelf-system.md) - [L-Shaped Stacked Shelving](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/loft-shelf.md) - [Dynamic Storage-Display Shelves](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/shelf-life.md) - [Clock-Accented Shelf Designs](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/omega-shelf.md) - [Room-Dividing Bookshelf Designs](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/frquence-shelf.md) - [Book-Storing Side Tables](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/bookgroove-bookrack.md) - [Minimalist Bookish Shelves](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/minimal-bookshelf.md) - [Playful Storage Blocks](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/berto-hidden-secrets.md)
