# Reworked Silo Lighthouses A Finnish Design Team Has Made a Cool Lighthouse Out of a Forgotten Silo By Michael Baxter | Published 2014-01-21 | Art & Design Source: Trend Hunter, https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/cool-lighthouse References: [neatorama](http://www.neatorama.com/2014/01/19/An-Old-Silo-Transformed-Into-A-Modern-Lighthouse/) & [ldcol](http://www.ldcol.com/) This is one cool lighthouse. Not because lighthouses are inherently cool (which they are) but because it's a reworked design of another piece of architecture. The Lighthouse Design Collective from Finland has reworked an old silo and turned it into an [illuminated exhibit](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/library-of-light). Architectural art is always unique in that the sheer size of it is much less understated than say a painting or a sculpture. When you see an piece of architectural art you **know** why it's cool, because it's either around you or starting straight in your face. This silo is filled with [perforated holes](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/barnacle-wall-sconce) and those holes are filled with over 2,000 [LED lights](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/nytt-lys-collection). This isn't the classic example of the kind of lighthouses that used to see ships to safety but it's the literal embodiment of a "light" house. ## Trend Insights (Trend Hunter) - Score: 1.4/10 - Popularity: 24% | Activity: 9% | Freshness: 8% - Audience gender: 50% men, 50% women - Primary generations: Millennial, Gen X - Top markets: North America, Europe, Asia ## Categories [Trend Hunter](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends) > [Art & Design](https://www.trendhunter.com/artdesign) > [Design](https://www.trendhunter.com/design) ## Key Themes ### Why This Trend Is Growing - **Architectural Art:** The reworked design of the silo lighthouse showcases the potential for architectural art as a trend. - **Illuminated Exhibits:** The use of over 2,000 LED lights in the silo lighthouse highlights the trend of illuminated exhibits. - **Transformation of Architecture:** The conversion of the old silo into a lighthouse reflects the trend of transforming architecture. ### Industries Being Reshaped - **Art and Design:** The architectural art trend presents disruptive innovation opportunities for the art and design industry. - **Lighting:** The trend of illuminated exhibits creates disruptive innovation opportunities for the lighting industry. - **Construction and Architecture:** The transformation of architecture trend opens up disruptive innovation opportunities for the construction and architecture industry. ## Related on Trend Hunter - [Lighthouse-Resembling Urban Buildings](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/old-port-square.md) - [Lighthouse-Functioning Concrete Structures](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/concrete-pavilion.md) - [Metaphorical Physical Community Buildings](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/lighthouse-church.md) - [Lighthouse-Inspired Urban Tall Structures](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/safdie-architects-1.md) - [Converted Grain Silo Sites](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/albina-riverside.md) - [Timber-Framed Croatian Homes](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/light-house.md) - [Scenic Architecture Lamps](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/architecture-inspired-table-lamp.md) - [Utensil Waste Lighting](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/nytt-lys.md) - [Lighthouse-Inspired Seafood Towers](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/maine-seafood-lighthouse.md)
