# Star Wars Tribute Sculptures George Lucas in Carbon By Cowbag | Published 2008-07-26 | Unique Source: Trend Hunter, https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/convention-sculptures-george-lucas-in-carbon References: [starwarsblog.starwars](http://starwarsblog.starwars.com/index.php/category/celebration-japan/) This is a totally random [carbonite sculpture](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/split-bust) of George Lucas for the uber geek in all of us. It was made for a Star Wars convention and celebration in Tokyo, Japan and looks a lot like the real deal. Once again I am foiled in my quest for articles by my inability to speak Japanese, so I am afraid I can't tell you much more. I do know it was premiered at an event to celebrate the Japanese 30th anniversary of Star Wars for which Lucas presented the first-ever [Star Wars Celebration event](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/the-lucas-museum-of-narrative-arts) in the Asia-Pacific. Whilst George Lucas did not attend the convention himself - and of course didn't have a chance to see himself in carbonite - he did send a video message. A grab from this is featured as a picture, so you can judge for yourself how close to the real thing the model is. Of course, the George Lucas sculpture is one of the many features which use [Star Wars as the inspiration](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/cocacola-x-star-wars) or creative trigger. For example, the flickr set to which these images belong also features the Vader project which, of course, was an article I featured yonks ago. ## Trend Insights (Trend Hunter) - Score: 3.5/10 - Popularity: 31% | Activity: 67% | Freshness: 8% - Audience gender: 50% men, 50% women - Primary generations: Millennial - Top markets: North America ## Categories [Trend Hunter](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends) > [Unique](https://www.trendhunter.com/unique) > [Bizarre](https://www.trendhunter.com/bizarre) ## Key Themes ### What's Driving This Trend - **Pop Culture Art:** Creating art that is inspired by popular franchises like Star Wars can capitalize on the nostalgia and fan bases of these iconic pop culture brands. - **Event-based Sculptures:** Commissioning sculptures for specific events, like this Star Wars celebration, can create unique and memorable experiences for attendees. - **Celebrity Tribute Art:** Making sculptures of famous figures, like George Lucas, can appeal to hardcore fans and collectors looking for unique and rare pieces of memorabilia. ### Who This Affects Most - **Art and Design:** Artists and designers can create sculptures and other art pieces inspired by popular franchises like Star Wars. - **Event Planning:** Event planners can commission unique and memorable sculptures for specific events, like Star Wars celebrations, to enhance the experience for attendees. - **Collectibles and Memorabilia:** Collectors and enthusiasts of franchises like Star Wars can add original and rare sculptures, like this George Lucas in carbonite, to their collections. ## Related on Trend Hunter - [Hand-Knit Sci-Fi Sculptures](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/handknit-scifi-sculpture.md) - [Sci-Fi-Inspired Classical Posters](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/sen-donnan.md) - [Collectible Sci-Fi Coins](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/star-wars-coins.md) - [Plastic Sci-Fi Figurines](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/artfx-boba-fett.md) - [Sci-Fi Scene-Inspired Lego Sets](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/scifi-sceneinspired-lego-set.md) - [Sci-Fi Franchise-Inspired Fashion](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/star-wars-collection-2.md) - [Galactic Cafe Experiences](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/Star-wars-themed-cafe.md) - [Sci-Fi-Honoring Toy Puzzle Books](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/force-of-creativity.md) - [Sci-Fi Franchise Logo Puzzles](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/brickbuilt-star-wars-logo.md)
