The remodeling went without a hitch thanks to Flavin Architects efforts, turning the simple old-fashioned house into a stunning contemporary home with a whole lot of authentic accents and rural touches like the [exposed wooden beams](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/bulls-barn). The new design has floor-to-ceiling windows that let natural sunlight in and positive nature-filled vibes because the residents are constantly connected to the outdoors. “The design rejects the traditional New England house with its enclosing wall and inward posture. The low pitched roofs, open floor plan and large window openings connect the house to nature to make the most of its rural setting,” says the architectural team at Flavin Architects. ## Trend Insights (Trend Hunter) - Score: 5.9/10 - Popularity: 91% | Activity: 79% | Freshness: 8% - Audience gender: 50% men, 50% women - Primary generations: Millennial, Gen X - Top markets: North America, Europe ## Categories [Trend Hunter](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends) > [Art & Design](https://www.trendhunter.com/artdesign) > [Design](https://www.trendhunter.com/design) ## Key Themes ### What Makes This Trend Stand Out - **Contemporary Rural Architecture:** Develop innovative contemporary designs for rural homes that incorporate nature and authentic elements. - **Mixing Old and New:** Explore innovative ways to renovate older homes and mix contemporary design with authentic elements. - **Connecting Indoors and Outdoors:** Develop designs that seamlessly connect indoor and outdoor spaces to create nature-filled living environments. ### Sectors Adopting This - **Architecture:** Opportunity for architecture firms to offer innovative contemporary designs with a focus on nature and authenticity. - **Construction:** Opportunity for construction companies to adapt renovation techniques to mix contemporary design with authentic elements in older homes. - **Home Decor:** Opportunity for home decor companies to create nature-inspired elements that blend with modern designs in contemporary rural homes. ## Related on Trend Hunter - [Renovated Rural Farmhouses](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/a-place-in-the-country.md) - [Contemporary Countryside Homes](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/contemporary-countryside-home.md) - [Contemporary Ski Home Projects](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/traditional-ski-chalet.md) - [Adaptive Family Residences](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/no-ordinary-house.md) - [Converted Industrial Homes](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/1960s-warehouse.md) - [Modernist Modern Retreats](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/general-assembly-1.md) - [Sleek Garden-Edge Renovations](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/waverley-house.md) - [Mid-Century-Inspired Home Renos](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/wagoya-house.md) - [Sculptural LA Homes](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/cm-g1.md)
