# Turkish Bath Book Installations The ConTemporary Library Combines Ancient and Current Architecture By Gil Cohen | Published 2012-12-13 | Art & Design Source: Trend Hunter, https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/contemporary-library References: [frameweb](http://www.frameweb.com/news/contemporary-library-by-studio-8-1/2) & [studio812.eu](http://studio812.eu/) Designed by Studio 8 1/2, the ConTemporary Library was installed in a most unusual setting. Set up for less than a week, the library was located within the walls of an abandoned 16th century Turkish bath house in Plodiv, Bulgaria. The Turkish bath, or hammam as it is traditionally called, features a central circular lounge where the temporary wooden library structure was installed. All of the shelves of contemporary books, laptops and cushions, were surrounded by moss-covered walls. People could sit in comfort and read within these ancient walls. Although a contrast was created between old and new architecture, the ConTemporary Library, a play on the words contemporary and temporary, seems as though it was right at home in the midst of the Turkish bath house. ## Trend Insights (Trend Hunter) - Score: 4.5/10 - Popularity: 68% | Activity: 60% | Freshness: 8% - Audience gender: 50% men, 50% women - Primary generations: Gen Z, Millennial, Gen X - Top markets: North America, Europe, Asia ## Categories [Trend Hunter](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends) > [Art & Design](https://www.trendhunter.com/artdesign) > [Architecture](https://www.trendhunter.com/architecture) ## Key Themes ### What Makes This Trend Stand Out - **Ancient-contemporary Hybrids:** Opportunity to create and integrate modern technology and designs into historical architecture. - **Temporary Installations:** Opportunity to leverage temporary installations, or pop-ups, for creative and non-traditional uses. - **Nature-inspired Decor:** Opportunity to combine natural elements with modern technology to create unique and environmentally conscious designs. ### Sectors Adopting This - **Library Services:** Potential to create more immersive and imaginative spaces for library patrons. - **Tourism and Hospitality:** Opportunity for architects, interior designers, and tourism professionals to create unique and memorable experiences in historical settings. - **Event Planning and Design:** Opportunity to create temporary installations and pop-ups for creative and non-traditional event spaces. ## Related on Trend Hunter - [Temporary Translucent Libraries](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/la-liberia.md) - [Wood-Wrapped Contemporary Libraries](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/graded-school-library.md) - [Juxtaposing Angular Libraries](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/brixen-public-library.md) - [Mobile Reading Pavilions](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/library-of-us.md) - [Mobile Glass Libraries](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/la-libreria.md) - [Floating Wetland Bookstore](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/xixi-goldmye-bookstore.md) - [Memory-Grounded School Libraries](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/rahmah-library.md) - [Children's Story-Inspired Libraries](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/western-academy.md) - [Perforated Shadow-Casting Libraries](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/mariams-library.md)
