# Funky Geometric Kitchens This Contemporary Kitchen Design is Both Modern and Functional By Kitchen Mogul | Published 2014-10-10 | Updated 2014-10-16 | Art & Design Source: Trend Hunter, https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/contemporary-kitchens-ireland References: [designer-kitchen](http://www.designer-kitchen.com) This dramatic kitchen by UK-Based designer Darren Morgan allows its functional prowess to be disguised by the fluidity of its form. Soft geometry is used to smudge the rigid and sometimes harsh lines of contemporary kitchen design with [unbroken curves](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/taichung-apartment) adding aesthetic interest and allowing this kitchen design to ebb its way into the surrounding architecture, ensuring that every inch of functional performance is optimized. The design is punctuated by [circular pod units](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/runda-tables) that adopt a commanding position in the foreground. Dramatic colors and traditionally styled doors contrast dramatically against the rest of the kitchen. These feature pods are positioned along key entry point sight lines to increase the aesthetic drama of the design. The elevated pod positions help to shield work processes from view whilst encouraging social loitering and human interaction. The aesthetic impact is completed with the inclusion of a feature ceiling which mirrors the [fluid contours](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/loop-furnitures) of the kitchen beneath. The up-lit ceiling allows services to be absorbed into the surrounding architecture whilst adding a holistic and dramatic edge to this uncompromising design. This kitchen has been designed to transform itself from an everyday functional space into a powerful and dramatic backdrop to any social event. ## Trend Insights (Trend Hunter) - Score: 4.8/10 - Popularity: 79% | Activity: 56% | Freshness: 8% - Audience gender: 30% men, 70% women - Primary generations: Gen X - Top markets: Europe ## Categories [Trend Hunter](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends) > [Art & Design](https://www.trendhunter.com/artdesign) > [Kitchen](https://www.trendhunter.com/kitchen) ## Key Themes ### Key Themes Behind This Trend - **Soft Geometry:** Exploring soft and fluid shapes in kitchen design to create a contemporary and aesthetic look. - **Circular Pod Units:** Incorporating commanding circular pod units in kitchen design to increase visual drama and functionality. - **Feature Ceilings:** Utilizing feature ceilings to add a holistic and dramatic edge to kitchen designs. ### Where This Applies - **Interior Design:** Revolutionizing kitchen designs by incorporating soft geometry, circular pod units, and feature ceilings for a modern and aesthetic appeal. - **Home Appliances:** Creating innovative kitchen appliances that complement and maximize the functionality of soft geometric designs and circular pod units. - **Event Planning & Catering:** Leveraging kitchens with dramatic and aesthetic features like soft geometry and feature ceilings to provide powerful backdrops for social events. ## Related on Trend Hunter - [Freestanding Experimental Kitchens](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/experimental-kitchens.md) - [Luxe Grooved Versatile Furniture](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/cesar.md) - [Modern Brick Kitchen Concept](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/fisher-paykel-brick-home.md) - [Ai-Powered Recipe-Generating Appliance](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/the-kitchen-cosmo.md) - [Minimalist Modular Kitchens](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/sensient-cosmetic-technologies.md) - [Modern Tonal Cabinet Collections](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/curved-cabinetry-collection.md) - [Sculptural Living Systems](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/cromatica.md) - [Compact Kitchen Furniture Collections](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/compact-kitchen-furniture.md) - [Colorful Textile Collaborative Installations](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/zdora.md)
