The [rural community](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/stanfordville-house) is filled with homes dating back to the 1960s. This new house occupies the footprint of a previous home; however, it has been updated to a more modern design. The architects organized the building to be "dramatically horizontal," offering its inhabitants abundant light and protective shelter. The sloping facade, which is clad in triple layered slate, connects with the driveway to create a smooth transition between home and property. Meanwhile, in the back, a glazed facade offers views of a beautiful forest and ravine. Inside, crisp white interiors are complemented by materials such as [marble, stone, glass and wood](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/studio-brocca) for a neutral color scheme. The house is completed by efficient features such as radiant flooring, ground source heating and photovoltaic technologies. ## Trend Insights (Trend Hunter) - Score: 3.0/10 - Popularity: 40% | Activity: 43% | Freshness: 8% - Audience gender: 50% men, 50% women - Primary generations: Millennial, Gen X - Top markets: North America, Europe, Asia ## Categories [Trend Hunter](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends) > [Art & Design](https://www.trendhunter.com/artdesign) > [Design](https://www.trendhunter.com/design) ## Key Themes ### Why This Trend Is Growing - **Contemporary Home Design:** Discover opportunities for disruptive innovation in the field of contemporary home design, exploring new materials, energy-efficient technologies, and innovative architectural concepts. - **Sustainable Building Practices:** Explore disruptive innovation opportunities in sustainable building practices, including the integration of renewable energy technologies, eco-friendly materials, and energy-efficient systems. - **Retrofitting and Renovation Projects:** Uncover opportunities for disruptive innovation in the field of retrofitting and renovation projects, leveraging modern designs and technologies to update existing structures. ### Industries Being Reshaped - **Architecture and Design:** The architecture and design industry can tap into disruptive innovation opportunities in contemporary home design, sustainable building practices, and retrofitting and renovation projects. - **Construction and Real Estate:** The construction and real estate industry can benefit from disruptive innovation in contemporary home design, sustainable building practices, and retrofitting and renovation projects to meet changing consumer demands and environmental preferences. - **Renewable Energy:** The renewable energy industry can explore disruptive innovation opportunities by integrating photovoltaic technologies and other renewable energy systems into sustainable buildings and homes. ## Related on Trend Hunter - [Dramatic Roof-Topped Ontario Homes](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/ridge-house.md) - [Corrugated Metal Barn-Like Houses](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/studioac.md) - [Compact Calming Homes](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/a-sheltered-space.md) - [Nature-Merging Geometric Homes](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/neville-park-residence.md) - [Scattered Boulder-Inspired Homes](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/rockbound.md) - [Landscape-Honoring Modern Homes](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/des-forges-residence.md) - [Meadow-Overlooking Sleek Homes](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/studioac-1.md) - [Modern A-Frame Toronto Homes](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/house-caroline.md) - [Minimal Philosophy Toronto Homes](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/forest-hill-residence.md)
