# Eclectic Quirky Homes This Contemporary Cottage Home is Welcoming and Undemanding By Vasiliki Marapas | Published 2014-09-26 | Art & Design Source: Trend Hunter, https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/contemporary-cottage References: [contemporist](http://www.contemporist.com/2014/09/26/stirling-house-by-mac-interactive-architects/) & [mac-interactive](http://www.mac-interactive.com/) MAC Interactive Architects designed the 'Stirling House,' a [contemporary cottage home](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/borova-lada-cottage) located in [Sydney, Australia](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/clifton-house). The kitchen is the central point in the relaxed layout of the home. The clients were adamant about needing a house that was laid-back and informal; somewhere their collection of art work, furniture and odd, but treasured, knick-knacks would feel at home, too. The architects focused on designing a house that lacked pretension, and ended up with this quirky form. The home is divided into a passive entertainment section and active entertaining section. The two are connected by a joinery, in which the staircase, kitchen and laundry are located. The "softer" side of the home is accessed through a timber-clad floor path, leading to a carpeted play space, instead of the more traditional attic. ## Trend Insights (Trend Hunter) - Score: 5.5/10 - Popularity: 91% | Activity: 65% | Freshness: 8% - Audience gender: 50% men, 50% women - Primary generations: Millennial, Gen X - Top markets: North America, Europe, Asia ## Categories [Trend Hunter](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends) > [Art & Design](https://www.trendhunter.com/artdesign) > [Design](https://www.trendhunter.com/design) ## Key Themes ### What's Driving This Trend - **Contemporary Cottage Design:** Disruptive innovation opportunity: Introduce sustainable and energy-efficient features in contemporary cottage homes. - **Relaxed and Informal Living Spaces:** Disruptive innovation opportunity: Develop technologies and designs that promote a laid-back and informal atmosphere in homes. - **Quirky and Eclectic Interior Design:** Disruptive innovation opportunity: Create customizable and unique interior designs that allow homeowners to showcase their treasured knick-knacks and artwork. ### Who This Affects Most - **Architectural Design:** Disruptive innovation opportunity: Explore new materials and construction techniques to enhance the design and functionality of contemporary cottage homes. - **Home Furnishings:** Disruptive innovation opportunity: Design furniture and decor items that complement the relaxed and quirky aesthetic of contemporary cottage homes. - **Home Renovation:** Disruptive innovation opportunity: Develop renovation services that cater to homeowners looking to transform their homes into eclectic and welcoming spaces. ## Related on Trend Hunter - [Adaptive Family Homes](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/carlton-cottage-extension.md) - [Textural Tranquil Cottage Extensions](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/harriets-house.md) - [Juxtaposing Retro Cottage Homes](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/drew-mandel-architects.md) - [Stone Cottage Renos](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/hameart-project.md) - [Charred Timber Home Extensions](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/grotto-studio.md) - [Garden-Connected Homes](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/the-waverley-house.md) - [Natural Material Scottish Cottages](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/iorram.md) - [Hidden Urban Oasis Cottages](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/quarry-house.md) - [Spacially Contrasting Home Designs](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/barwon-heads-house.md)
