# String-Assembled Seating The Constructing Memory Collection Includes a Drawstring Wooden Chair By Amelia Roblin | Published 2014-01-14 | Art & Design Source: Trend Hunter, https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/constructing-memory References: [mocoloco](http://mocoloco.com/archives/029585.php) & [huichunchen](http://www.huichunchen.com/Constructing-Memory) Hui Chun Chen's Constructing Memory collection goes against your expectation that furnishings are held together by hardware and interacted with by handles and flat surfaces. These three [unusual objects](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/atypical-chair) ask the user to interact with them in very unfamiliar ways, fostering mindfulness, an emotional reaction and forming a memory. The Constructing Memory chair is quite the quirky inclusion. This piece of furniture is held together by loose ropes that run through the legs, the seat and the backrest. With no sitter pulling on them, the chair simply [collapses](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/edgeofyr). The cabinet of the collection is small and obscure and invites you to pull at its mess of cords in order to open up the tiny compartments. Finally, the carpet is so unlike a recognizable floor treatment. It's essentially a forest of stilts. ## Trend Insights (Trend Hunter) - Score: 3.9/10 - Popularity: 29% | Activity: 79% | Freshness: 8% - Audience gender: 50% men, 50% women - Primary generations: Gen Z, Gen Alpha, Millennial, Gen X - Top markets: North America, Europe, Asia ## Categories [Trend Hunter](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends) > [Art & Design](https://www.trendhunter.com/artdesign) > [Design](https://www.trendhunter.com/design) ## Key Themes ### What Makes This Trend Stand Out - **String-assembled Furniture:** Using loose ropes to hold furniture together creates a unique and interactive user experience, encouraging mindfulness and emotional connection. - **Unconventional Cabinet Design:** Incorporating a mess of cords as part of the cabinet construction creates an intriguing and interactive storage solution. - **Stilted Carpets:** Creating a carpet that resembles a forest of stilts offers an unconventional and eye-catching floor treatment option. ### Sectors Adopting This - **Furniture Manufacturing:** Furniture manufacturers can explore the use of string assembly techniques to create innovative and engaging product designs. - **Interior Design:** Interior designers can incorporate unconventional cabinet designs into their projects to provide a unique and interactive element. - **Flooring:** Flooring companies can experiment with stilted carpet designs to offer customers unique and visually interesting floor covering options. ## Related on Trend Hunter - [Sprouting Chair Designs](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/wood-chair-on-grass.md) - [Climbing Rope-Crafted Furniture Series](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/entwined-objects.md) - [Mindful Wooden Chairs](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/tanuvi-hegde.md) - [Storage-Attached Chair Designs](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/grid-chair.md) - [Simple Assembly Dining Chairs](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/yugan.md) - [Rope-Like Dynamic Chair Designs](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/caterpillar-lounge.md) - [Flatpack Single-Piece Furniture](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/leaning-chair-set.md) - [Storage-Friendly Origami Chairs](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/the-kerf.md) - [Cubic Featherlight Seat Designs](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/please-hold-up-chair.md)
