# Angular Apartment Buildings Connecting Riads Complements the Dynamic Archiscape of Casablanca By Amelia Roblin | Published 2012-05-23 | Art & Design Source: Trend Hunter, https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/connecting-riads References: [plusmood](http://www.plusmood.com/2012/05/connecting-riads-aqso-arquitectos-office/) & [aqso.net](http://www.aqso.net/projects/1203arc-residential-complex-in-casablanca) The condominium is conventionally rectangular and often consequently uninteresting. Connecting Riads is quite different with its apparent enthusiastic attempt to challenge gravity and its flat plot. Right angles have certainly been avoided by the AQSO architects. Taking cues from the jagged horizon of bleached structures around Casablanca, this building embodies a [bold play of geometries](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/harmonikahusene) as a composition of four mutually embracing masses. The plan-based contours of the project are defined by the rigid site, but the standing silhouette is an exciting sequence of angled capping, covered with [grassy gardens](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/villa-95) and accessed from the apartments within. The [staggered effect of the terraces](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/house-in-minamiazabu) fosters an intriguing interaction amongst neighbors, similar to that of the rooftop travel in the casbah. For those without access to the upper Connecting Riads lawns, landscaped courtyards provide public places for outdoor enjoyment. ## Trend Insights (Trend Hunter) - Score: 2.5/10 - Popularity: 44% | Activity: 24% | Freshness: 8% - Audience gender: 50% men, 50% women - Primary generations: Gen Z, Gen Alpha, Millennial, Gen X - Top markets: Africa ## Categories [Trend Hunter](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends) > [Art & Design](https://www.trendhunter.com/artdesign) > [Architecture](https://www.trendhunter.com/architecture) ## Key Themes ### Why This Trend Is Growing - **Geometric Architecture:** Opportunity to explore innovative designs that challenge convention and embrace unique geometries in construction. - **Community-focused Design:** Opportunity to incorporate design elements that foster community interaction and public spaces for outdoor enjoyment. - **Green Roofs:** Opportunity to incorporate sustainable design elements, such as grassy gardens on angled capping for improved insulation and eco-friendliness. ### Industries Being Reshaped - **Architecture:** Architecture firms can explore new design possibilities outside of traditional rectangular structures and create buildings that promote community interaction and sustainability. - **Real Estate:** Real estate developers can incorporate community-focused design elements that appeal to modern buyers who prioritize public spaces and eco-friendliness. - **Landscape Architecture:** Landscape architects can work with architects to create unique green roof designs that provide improved insulation and incorporate sustainable elements into building construction. ## Related on Trend Hunter - [Warped Stacked Residence Buildings](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/quinta-do-rei.md) - [Triangular Social Housing](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/lady-raval.md) - [Triangular Concrete Apartment Blocks](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/mo288.md) - [Dynamic Living Towered Residences](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/onze22.md) - [Hand-Fan Plan Apartments](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/cometa-architects.md) - [Minimalist Concrete Complexes](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/residential-project-in-tokyo.md) - [Rural Slope Housing Blocks](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/rtiboden-housing.md) - [Staggered Cubic Skyscrapers](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/ooda.md) - [Plaza-Surrounding Housing Complexes](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/h-residence.md)
