# Condoms For USBs Electronic Rubber To Keep Viruses From Screwing Your PC By Vishal Bhardwaj | Published 2009-01-08 | Tech Source: Trend Hunter, https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/condom-for-usb-electronic-rubber-to-keep-viruses-away References: [yankodesign](http://www.yankodesign.com/2009/01/07/condom-protects-you-from-viruses/) Since [rubber](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/durex-intensity) works so well in the real world to protect you from viruses, it was only a matter of time before someone extended the idea to technology to keep the virtual viruses away. All credit goes to designer Ko Yang for the weird idea of designing a condom for USBs. [Flash drives](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/extreme-fit-usb-c) are nearly indispensable today, and they’re fast becoming a grand way to spread malware, so in a way, the idea does have weight. The Condom USB acts as an interface between a [USB enabled device](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/plugable-data-blocking-cable) and the computer, and as soon as it detects a virus, the device shuts down the communication port, cleans the virus and reopens the port. This is where the USB condom scores over the “real thing," but if your antivirus software isn’t good enough to detect a virus, and you randomly decide to rely on a crazy contraption, you’re still pretty much screwed. ## Trend Insights (Trend Hunter) - Score: 1.3/10 - Popularity: 10% | Activity: 22% | Freshness: 8% - Audience gender: 50% men, 50% women - Primary generations: Millennial, Gen X - Top markets: North America, Europe ## Categories [Trend Hunter](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends) > [Tech](https://www.trendhunter.com/tech) > [Gadgets](https://www.trendhunter.com/gadgets) ## Key Themes ### Why This Trend Is Growing - **Virtual Protection:** Designing protective devices for digital equipment, such as the Condom USB, can revolutionize the way we combat virtual viruses. - **Tech Accessories:** There is a growing need for innovative tech accessories to support and protect the increasingly essential and valuable USB enabled devices. - **Virus Detection:** Improving virus detection technology can lead to the development of more effective and efficient protective measures for digital devices. ### Industries Being Reshaped - **Technology:** The technology industry can benefit from incorporating protective measures into their products to prevent virus infections in USB enabled devices. - **Consumer Electronics:** The Consumer Electronics industry can capture a growing market by providing effective and affordable protective measures for USB enabled devices. - **Cybersecurity:** The Cybersecurity industry can develop innovative solutions for detecting and preventing virus infections in digital devices, such as the Condom USB. ## Related on Trend Hunter - [Silicone Condom Cases](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/silicone-condom-cases.md) - [Ruggedly Encrypted USB Drives](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/encrypted-usb-drive.md) - [Data-Destroying Laptop Devices](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/buskill-usb-cord.md) - [Laptop-Fitted USB Stick Concepts](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/saint-antoine.md) - [Object-Resembling USB Drives](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/sandisk-1.md) - [Icon-Shaped USB Drives](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/folderdrive.md) - [Data-Protecting USB Keys](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/nukii.md) - [Self-Sanitizing Computer Mouses](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/zero-mouse.md) - [Sexual Wellness Underwear](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/lorals-for-protection.md)
