# Concrete Seats 'Concrete Things' Public Chairs by Komplot By TrendHead | Published 2009-02-28 | Art & Design Source: Trend Hunter, https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/concrete-urban-seating-design-by-danish-company-komplot References: [nola.se](http://www.nola.se/en/produkter/stockholm-furniture-fair-2009/concrete-things?page=1) & [komplot.dk](http://www.komplot.dk/Pages/News/News.html) These striking molded concrete seats were shown at the Stockholm Furniture Fair 2009 and are Danish design company Komplot’s answer to urban seating calls. I like the thought of placing [comfy-looking sofa seats](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/rokko) in the city center. It gives homeless people a homely place to hang in as well. These 'Concrete Things' chairs may appear massive, but their [sculptural form](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/jean-nouvel-11) was actually inspired by their [weightless steel grid chair](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/dream-view-chair), which I have featured previously. The concrete seating is designed to fit into city squares, malls, museums, parks, and streets. On a hot summer day I could just lean back and quite happily watch the world go by in one of these. ## Trend Insights (Trend Hunter) - Score: 2.7/10 - Popularity: 44% | Activity: 29% | Freshness: 8% - Audience gender: 70% men, 30% women - Primary generations: Millennial, Gen X - Top markets: North America, Europe, Asia ## Categories [Trend Hunter](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends) > [Art & Design](https://www.trendhunter.com/artdesign) > [Design](https://www.trendhunter.com/design) ## Key Themes ### Why This Trend Is Growing - **Concrete Seating:** Designing outdoor seating made from concrete material as an alternative to traditional seating that is more durable and requires less maintenance. - **Urban Seating:** Developing urban seating solutions that are both comfortable and visually appealing, enhancing the well-being of city dwellers and adding flair to public spaces. - **Sustainable City Furniture:** Creating city furniture using sustainable materials such as concrete, that can withstand weathering and promote eco-friendliness in public spaces and city centers. ### Industries Being Reshaped - **Furniture:** Furniture designers can take inspiration from the use of concrete material in outdoor seating solutions, creating durable yet attractive designs. - **Architecture:** Urban planners and architects can incorporate these designs into their city planning strategies, creating more inviting and comfortable public spaces for city dwellers. - **Construction:** Construction companies can specialize in creating outdoor furniture solutions from sustainable materials like concrete, helping to promote eco-friendliness and bring sustainable infrastructure to urban environments. ## Related on Trend Hunter - [Sculptural Public Seating](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/sculptural-public-seating.md) - [Contrasting Element Concrete Stools](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/conecto-modular-stool.md) - [3D-Printed Concrete Chairs](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/chair-none.md) - [Sleek Steel Structural Chairs](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/combchair.md) - [Playful Public Seating Designs](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/playful-public-seating.md) - [Brutalist Concrete Furniture](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/brute-furniture-concept.md) - [Swivelling Marbled Chairs](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/landmark-project.md) - [Experimental Chair Designs](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/philipp-aduatz.md) - [Weather-Versatile Conical Chairs](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/conicent.md)
