# Planetary Orb Lighting The Concrete Reader Desk Lamp Entices You to Touch It By Akihiko Tse | Published 2013-09-11 | Art & Design Source: Trend Hunter, https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/concrete-desk-lamp References: [yankodesign](http://www.yankodesign.com/2013/09/10/crazy-about-concrete/) The Concrete Reader desk lamp by Alexander Krivoshlykov looks like something you could find children climbing on in a playground. With its dimensions only measuring 300 by 500 mm, though, the desk lamp has a strong spotlight effect that makes it ideal for focused reading. While the Concrete Desk Lamp doesn’t strike one at first as being particularly fanciful, the orb’s gray, [moon rock-like surface](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/the-phase-lamp) makes it an interesting choice for tactile internal decorum. The desk lamp is supported by [three thin wooden legs](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/arc-lamp), giving it the impression that the planetarium is supported by huge leverage, while a hole close to the base of the tilted orb holds a bulb that connects to the back through a wire. From afar, the Concrete Desk Lamp’s stony surface invites the curious in, if only to touch it and confirm its texture for themselves. ## Trend Insights (Trend Hunter) - Score: 1.3/10 - Popularity: 19% | Activity: 12% | Freshness: 8% - Audience gender: 50% men, 50% women - Primary generations: Millennial - Top markets: North America, Europe, Asia ## Categories [Trend Hunter](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends) > [Art & Design](https://www.trendhunter.com/artdesign) > [Furniture](https://www.trendhunter.com/furniture) ## Key Themes ### Why This Trend Is Growing - **Tactile Decorum:** There is a trend towards incorporating touchable elements in interior decor, creating opportunities for tactile-focused designs and products. - **Focused Reading:** There is a trend towards using lighting designs that provide strong spotlights for focused reading, opening opportunities for innovative desk lamps and reading lights. - **Playground-inspired Design:** There is a trend towards incorporating playful elements in design, leading to opportunities for creating products that resemble playground structures. ### Industries Being Reshaped - **Interior Design:** The interior design industry can take advantage of the trend towards tactile decorum by creating touchable decor elements, such as textured lamps and furnishings. - **Lighting:** The lighting industry can tap into the trend for focused reading by developing innovative desk lamps and reading lights that provide strong spotlights for readers. - **Product Design:** The product design industry can explore the trend for playground-inspired design by creating functional products that resemble or take inspiration from playground structures. ## Related on Trend Hunter - [Calming Orb Lamps](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/orb-lamp1.md) - [Childhood-Inspired Magnetic Lighting](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/orbe.md) - [3D-Printed Mood Lamps](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/orbyt.md) - [Simplistic Angular Desktop Illuminators](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/linear-table-lamp.md) - [Space-Saving Desk Lamps](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/spacesaving-desk-lamp.md) - [Scenic Architecture Lamps](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/architecture-inspired-table-lamp.md) - [Interactive Lamp Designs](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/tangent-lamp.md) - [Planetary Dual-Illumination Lamps](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/orbis-lamp.md) - [Adaptive Marble Lamps](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/emit.md)
