# Yellow Brick Furniture Studiocharlie's Conchiglia Sideboard is Inspired by the Golden Ratio By Meghan Young | Published 2011-04-09 | Art & Design Source: Trend Hunter, https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/conchiglia-sideboard References: [design-milk](http://design-milk.com/conchiglia-sideboard-by-studiocharlie/) & [studiocharlie.org](http://www.studiocharlie.org/) If you're a fan of geometry or even the Wizard of Oz, you might want to consider getting your hands on the Conchiglia sideboard. This stunningly unique piece of furniture resembles a certain famous yellow brick road. Designed by Studiocharlie for Lema, the Conchiglia sideboard was not inspired by the movie world; instead, it was inspired by the [geometric form of a spiral](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/glass-collection), also known as the golden ratio. Although I can't detect a single spiral in its design, that's not exactly the point. According to the designers of the Conchiglia sideboard, we only ever see a portion of a spiral because it is too small at first and then, as it develops, it becomes too big. Similarly, as the Conchiglia sideboard "develops, the [size of the doors increases](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/obelisk-3), and where the details become invisible at the origin of the spiral there is a void, a concentrated space." ## Trend Insights (Trend Hunter) - Score: 3.2/10 - Popularity: 38% | Activity: 51% | Freshness: 8% - Audience gender: 70% men, 30% women - Primary generations: Millennial, Gen X - Top markets: North America, Europe, Asia ## Categories [Trend Hunter](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends) > [Art & Design](https://www.trendhunter.com/artdesign) > [Design](https://www.trendhunter.com/design) ## Key Themes ### Key Themes Behind This Trend - **Geometric Furniture Design:** Designers can look into creating furniture pieces inspired by geometry to add a unique touch to any space. - **Innovative Storage Solutions:** Incorporating size variations and void spaces into furniture design can create innovative storage solutions. - **Golden Ratio Influences:** Exploring the mathematical concept of the golden ratio can lead to visually stunning and balanced designs. ### Where This Applies - **Furniture Manufacturing:** Furniture manufacturers can incorporate geometric-inspired designs into their product lines to offer unique pieces to consumers. - **Interior Design:** Interior designers can utilize golden ratio-inspired furniture to introduce a visually striking element to any interior space. - **Architectural Design:** Architects can incorporate the golden ratio into their building designs to create balanced and aesthetically pleasing spaces. ## Related on Trend Hunter - [Curved Base Plywood Sideboards](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/the-embrace-sideboard.md) - [Offset Shelf Sideboards](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/crazy-slice-sideboard-concept.md) - [Twisting CGI-Designed Sideboards](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/bookscrew-sideboard.md) - [Curvaceous Storage-Packed Sideboards](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/embrace-sideboard.md) - [Extremely Luxurious Curved Sofas](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/curved-yellow-sofa.md) - [Twisted Wooden Boxed Sideboard](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/deniz-aktay.md) - [Unique Burl-Inspired Furniture](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/don-heston-studio.md) - [Textured Oak Sideboards](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/nick-james.md) - [Candy-Inspired Laminated Artful Furniture](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/n90n.md)
