# Exact Circle-Drawing Rulers The 'Compasses Ruler' Lets You Draw Precise Straight and Curved Lines By Alexander Lam | Published 2013-08-23 | Art & Design Source: Trend Hunter, https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/compasses-ruler References: [yankodesign](http://www.yankodesign.com/2013/08/21/round-and-straight-lines-are-best/) & [idsa.org](http://www.idsa.org/compasses-ruler) The 'Compasses Ruler' allows you to draw both perfectly straight lines and exquisite circles. Designers Hyejin-Lee and Youngkwang-Hyun from Hoseo University saw an opportunity to integrate a compass function into the ruler in order to cut down on bulk. Using the ruler, users can accurately draw a circle with a precise diameter without any hassle. The ruler works by using an anchor tab combined with accurately spaced holes. A pushpin at the end of the ruler can be pressed into the paper to act as an anchor. The sharp end stays within the ruler until the user needs to use the compass function. After choosing the required radius, all you have to do is insert your pencil into a marked hole and smoothly etch out a circle. ## Trend Insights (Trend Hunter) - Score: 3.8/10 - Popularity: 59% | Activity: 46% | Freshness: 8% - Audience gender: 50% men, 50% women - Primary generations: Millennial, Gen X - Top markets: North America, Europe ## Categories [Trend Hunter](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends) > [Art & Design](https://www.trendhunter.com/artdesign) > [Design](https://www.trendhunter.com/design) ## Key Themes ### What's Driving This Trend - **Precise Circle-drawing Tools:** The integration of compass functionality into rulers presents an opportunity for precise and efficient circle-drawing. - **Compact and Multi-functional Design:** The incorporation of compass features into rulers allows for a compact and versatile tool that can draw straight lines and circles. - **Simplifying Creative Processes:** The 'Compasses Ruler' simplifies the process of drawing both straight lines and circles, making it easier for designers and artists to create. ### Who This Affects Most - **Office Supplies:** The integration of compass functionality into rulers presents a disruptive innovation opportunity for the office supplies industry to offer more efficient and versatile tools. - **Arts and Crafts:** The 'Compasses Ruler' can disrupt the arts and crafts industry by providing a tool that simplifies the process of drawing precise circles and straight lines. - **Education:** The incorporation of compass functionality into rulers can revolutionize the education industry by offering students a multi-functional tool for accurate geometry drawing. ## Related on Trend Hunter - [Geometric Dynamic Stationary](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/hexagonal-ruler.md) - [Multifunctional Angular Desktop Rulers](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/hexagonal-ruler-set.md) - [Compact Precise Sketching Tools](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/horizon-helvetica.md) - [Curvaceous Analog Designer Rulers](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/rulerc-concept.md) - [Digital Design Desktop Rulers](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/neoruler.md) - [Hybrid Angled Stationary Designs](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/25-ruler.md) - [Magnifying Measurement Rulers](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/fun-sizes-ruler.md) - [Refill-Friendly Ruler Pens](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/combined-ruler-and-pen.md) - [Dual-Functioning Mechanical Pencils](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/the-penpass.md)
