# Prison Picture Services Pigeonly Allows People on the Outside to Communicate With Inmates By Alyson Wyers | Published 2014-09-09 | Fashion Source: Trend Hunter, https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/communicate-with-inmates References: [springwise](http://www.springwise.com/instagram-snaps-turned-physical-mail-inmates/) & [pigeon.ly](http://www.pigeon.ly) In an effort to connect people in prison with the outside word and allow loved ones to better communicate with inmates, Pigeonly wants to bring back the printed picture. The service turns your [social snaps](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/picswap) (like [Instagram](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/puppy-platoon) posts) into physical photos to send to incarcerated friends or family through regular post. Through FotoPigeon, users can upload images from [Facebook](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/wifi-digital-picture-frame), Instagram or their cell phone. They then attach the name and address of the person behind bars, who will receive the picture in a couple days time. Users can send up to five photos a week for free, after which a $0.50 flat fee is instituted. By providing a service for people to communicate with inmates, Pigeonly is especially beneficial for children growing up with family members in the penal system. ## Trend Insights (Trend Hunter) - Score: 5.5/10 - Popularity: 62% | Activity: 96% | Freshness: 8% - Audience gender: 50% men, 50% women - Primary generations: Gen Z, Gen Alpha, Millennial, Gen X - Top markets: North America ## Categories [Trend Hunter](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends) > [Fashion](https://www.trendhunter.com/fashion) > [Photography](https://www.trendhunter.com/stylephotography) ## Key Themes ### Why This Trend Is Growing - **Printed Picture Revival:** There is an opportunity to bring back printed photos in a digital age and offer a service that converts social media images into physical prints for communication purposes. - **Incarcerated Communication Platforms:** There is potential to develop communication platforms aimed at connecting inmates with their families and loved ones while they are behind bars. - **Affordable Incarcerated Communication:** There is an opportunity to provide affordable communication options in prisons that family members and friends can use to stay in contact with incarcerated individuals. ### Industries Being Reshaped - **Photo Printing and Delivery:** There is an opportunity to develop a business that prints and delivers photos to individuals in a cost-effective way. - **Incarceration Services:** There is an opportunity to build services that provide communication platforms for incarcerated individuals and their families and friends. - **Digital Communication Platforms:** There is an opportunity to provide affordable digital communication platforms for families and friends of incarcerated people that include options such as video chats and messaging. ## Related on Trend Hunter - [Hybrid Mail Services](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/better-letter-card-co.md) - [Carrier Pigeon Campaigns](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/project-pigeon.md) - [Visual Chat Platforms](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/picnow.md) - [Visual Email Newsletters](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/visual-email-newsletters.md) - [Picture Framing Services](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/frame-it.md) - [Connective Pet Communities](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/petigo.md) - [Digital Photo Booth Experiences](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/digital-photo-booth-experiences.md) - [Personalized Holiday Newsletters](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/pics-wishes.md) - [App-Connected Photo Frames](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/wifi-digital-picture-frame.md)
