It’s common for advertisers to base commercials on everyday human experiences to make it easier to connect with their target audience; however, sometimes advertisers opt to create something that’s truly [bizarre](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/german-doner-kebab), which is the case in this [Orbit gum commercial](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/tridifferent).

The Orbit gum company recently commissioned Chris Woods to take charge of one its commercials. The video starts normally enough with a woman finishing her meal on a flight, but takes an odd turn after she is encroached by the [meals she had recently consumed](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/tiny-chef-x-ikea).

The meals aren’t just given human faces, but also dialogue -- as if their having faces wouldn’t weird people out enough. The camera’s fixation on the mashed potato was odd and a little bit unnerving, but at the same time it was something you couldn’t turn your view away from.
