# Modernized Old School Escritoires The Comfortable Desk Has Evolved to Accommodate Adaptability By Amelia Roblin | Published 2013-01-24 | Art & Design Source: Trend Hunter, https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/comfortable-desk References: [behance.net](http://www.behance.net/gallery/Comfortable-come-back-to-school/2256730) You don't see the [stand-alone chair-desk combo](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/newtral-freedom-x) in classrooms as often anymore; however, when you do, they tend to conform to the old assembly that isn't remotely reconfigurable. The Comfortable Desk is a contemporary adaptation for the 21st century student that affords the user the ability to adjust it to the shape of his own body. Despite the rigid and structured look about Michele Tenca's project, the seat can be moved forwards or backwards on tracks. The pair of cushions that make up the backrest can be slid up and down to one's desired positions while the [writing surface can be shifted](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/spout) as well. Conceived in collaboration with Emanuele Cecini, the [modular Comfortable Desk](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/mespace-workstation) can be easily moved about different classrooms and arranged freely without occupying much space. ## Trend Insights (Trend Hunter) - Score: 2.0/10 - Popularity: 42% | Activity: 9% | Freshness: 8% - Audience gender: 50% men, 50% women - Primary generations: Gen Z, Gen Alpha, Millennial - Top markets: Europe ## Categories [Trend Hunter](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends) > [Art & Design](https://www.trendhunter.com/artdesign) > [Design](https://www.trendhunter.com/design) ## Key Themes ### Why This Trend Is Growing - **Adaptable Furniture:** The trend of adaptable furniture is revolutionizing traditional desk designs and allowing for personalized comfort and mobility. - **Modular Office Solutions:** The rise of modular office solutions is enabling companies to create flexible work environments that can easily adapt to changing needs and promote productivity and collaboration. - **Space Optimization:** The trend of space optimization is driving the development of furniture designs that maximize functionality while minimizing footprint. ### Industries Being Reshaped - **Education:** The education industry can benefit from the trend of adaptable furniture by creating student-centered learning environments that enhance comfort and ergonomics. - **Office Furniture:** The office furniture industry has an opportunity to capitalize on the demand for modular solutions that can be easily reconfigured to meet different operational needs and foster employee well-being. - **Interior Design:** The interior design industry can explore innovative ways to optimize space and create multi-functional furniture pieces that blend style and functionality. ## Related on Trend Hunter - [Colorful School Desk Designs](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/clever-school-desk1.md) - [Hyper-Customizable Desks](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/hypercustomizable-desk.md) - [Shape-Shifting Classroom Chairs](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/eduba.md) - [Modular Workspace Stools](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/versatile-stool-design.md) - [Modular Play-Friendly Desk Designs](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/desk-concept.md) - [Adjustable Modern Work Desks](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/spout.md) - [Ergonomic Multi-Use Desk Furniture](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/kabinett-desk.md) - [Transforming Workspace Furniture Designs](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/asytron-furniture.md) - [Personalized Learning Desks](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/d2l.md)
