Although Roosevelt Island is now a residential area, the island was formerly know as a place of isolation and quarantine. This unconventional art installation pays homage to the history of the island in a colorful way. The colorful swimming pool is an art installation by Minneapolis-based designer 'HOTxTEA.' The installation consists of a deck and pool coated in a layer of rainbow ombre. In total, [130 gallons of paint](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/yolo-paint) were required to completely cover the pool. The visually striking design serves as an interesting contrast to the history of the former New York City Lunatic Asylum.
