# Cheerfully Colorful Housing Units Johnsen Schmaling Architects Decorate This Complex with Color By Kalin Ned | Published 2018-11-15 | Art & Design Source: Trend Hunter, https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/colorful-housing References: [dezeen](https://www.dezeen.com/2018/11/14/oak-park-housing-sacramento-colourful-louvres-johnsen-schmaling-architects/) & [johnsenschmaling](https://www.johnsenschmaling.com/) This colorful housing complex is situated in northern Califonia. Wisconsin-based studio [Johnsen Schmaling Architects](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/curtain-house) put effort into creating a dynamic embellishment to the neighborhood by cheerfully accenting the facades of the Oak Park project. The infusion of a design-forward, multi-colored architecture is of significance, given the troublesome past of the area. The community has had a lengthy period of struggle due to "economic stagnation and disinvestment." In addition, Oak Park was a site for riots after police raided a [Black Panther Party](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/svart-hus) office in 1969. Thus, the newly developed colorful housing complex has an uplifting character that could potentially serve as a beacon of hope. Described as an "urban revitalisation [project]," Johnsen Schmaling Architects channel the creative and good-natured side of the community.
