# Flying Soundsystems The Coleman Levitating Speakers Take Your Music to New Heights By Alex Scott | Published 2010-04-15 | Tech Source: Trend Hunter, https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/coleman-leviating-speakers References: [thedesignblog.org](http://www.thedesignblog.org/entry/coleman-s-levitating-superconductor-speakers-kindle-a-new-way-in-sound/) & [james-coleman.deviantart](http://james-coleman.deviantart.com/gallery/) The [Coleman](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/coleman-peak1-headlamp) Levitating Speakers are obviously the work of some black magic. I mean, science couldn't possibly explain this phenomenon...or could it (cue ominous music)? We can give credit for this spectacular design to the wonderful power if magnets--they never cease to amaze us. The Coleman Levitating Speakers were designed by the brilliant mind of James Coleman. Housed in the base of the system is an electromagnet, with a superconductor created in the [floating part](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/levitating-cybertruck). Now all you science geeks out there surely know how something like this works, but I, on the other hand, will continue to stare slack-jawed in amazement. ## Trend Insights (Trend Hunter) - Score: 3.2/10 - Popularity: 64% | Activity: 25% | Freshness: 8% - Audience gender: 70% men, 30% women - Primary generations: Millennial, Gen X - Top markets: North America, Europe ## Categories [Trend Hunter](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends) > [Tech](https://www.trendhunter.com/tech) > [Multimedia](https://www.trendhunter.com/multimedia) ## Key Themes ### Why This Trend Is Growing - **Levitating Speakers:** Opportunity for disruptive innovation: Develop levitating speaker technology for commercial and residential use. - **Magnetic Suspension:** Opportunity for disruptive innovation: Create magnetic suspension systems for various applications such as vehicles and machinery. - **Superconductors:** Opportunity for disruptive innovation: Explore the use of superconductors in various industries, such as energy transmission and medical imaging. ### Industries Being Reshaped - **Audio Technology:** Opportunity for disruptive innovation: Integrate levitating speaker technology into the audio industry to enhance sound quality and aesthetics. - **Transportation:** Opportunity for disruptive innovation: Apply magnetic suspension technology to revolutionize the transportation industry, improving efficiency and comfort in vehicles. - **Energy:** Opportunity for disruptive innovation: Utilize superconductors to develop more efficient energy transmission systems, reducing energy loss and improving sustainability. ## Related on Trend Hunter - [Ferromagnetic Visualizer Speaker Systems](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/van-der-waals-speaker.md) - [Reactive Ferrofluid Display Speakers](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/dyson-ferro-speaker.md) - [Ice-Inspired Ferrofluid Speakers](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/iceberg-crystal-speaker.md) - [Levitating Lunar Smart Speakers](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/lua-speaker.md) - [Illusory Floating Turntables](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/audiotechnica-hotaru.md) - [Resonance-Powered Portable Speakers](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/leapsonic-speaker.md) - [Ceiling-Mounted Orb Speaker Concepts](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/andr-terchanian.md) - [Transparent Loudspeaker Systems](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/loudspeaker-system.md) - [Minimalist See-Through Speaker Units](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/witalogy-speaker.md)
