# Sculpturally Flapping Furniture The Coffee Table by Sandro Lopez Looks Like It Will Take Flight By Meghan Young | Published 2014-04-29 | Art & Design Source: Trend Hunter, https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/coffee-table-by-sandro-lopez References: [contemporist](http://www.contemporist.com/2014/04/26/coffee-table-by-sandro-lopez/) & [sandrolopez](http://www.sandrolopez.com/) The base of the Coffee Table by Sandro Lopez, a designer currently based in Milan, Italy, could be likened to the wings of a butterfly. Although it looks to be in mid-flap, the dynamics of the movement is slightly off. Even with this is mind, it is hard not to appreciate the [minimal and sculptural qualities](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/interactive-transformation-table) behind the design. Made out of wood, either beech or oak, and topped with a [rounded glass surface](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/zen-collection-1), the Coffee Table by Sandro Lopez could fit into virtually any living or work space with ease. Carefully grounded on three points, the furniture piece has a lightness about it that really drives in the flighty feel of the design. It is available in cream, dark brown and natural wood finishings. ## Trend Insights (Trend Hunter) - Score: 5.3/10 - Popularity: 92% | Activity: 59% | Freshness: 8% - Audience gender: 50% men, 50% women - Primary generations: Millennial, Gen X - Top markets: Europe ## Categories [Trend Hunter](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends) > [Art & Design](https://www.trendhunter.com/artdesign) > [Design](https://www.trendhunter.com/design) ## Key Themes ### What Makes This Trend Stand Out - **Sculptural Furniture:** Designers can explore the creation of furniture pieces that have a sculptural feel and aesthetic. - **Organic Shapes:** Designers can experiment with organic shapes to create furniture pieces that have a natural, wholesome feel. - **Lightweight Designs:** Designers can create furniture pieces that have a lightness about them to emphasize a flighty, airy feel. ### Sectors Adopting This - **Furniture Design:** Furniture manufacturers can look to create pieces that are not only functional but also serve as pieces of art. - **Interior Design:** Interior designers can incorporate sculptural pieces into their projects to add an interesting visual element to the space. - **Artisanal Furniture:** Artisanal furniture makers can create custom pieces that are sculptural in nature and appeal to buyers looking for unique and one-of-a-kind pieces of furniture. ## Related on Trend Hunter - [Paper-Like Coffee Tables](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/cocoon-coffee-table.md) - [Fluid Topographic Coffee Tables](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/dune-table.md) - [Sculpted One-Piece Coffee Tables](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/pelican-coffee-table.md) - [Crawling Dynamic Coffee Tables](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/carpentopod.md) - [Fabric-Like Side Tables](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/tablecloth-side-table.md) - [Curvaceous Animalistic Coffee Tables](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/bookpet-coffee-table.md) - [Luxe Low-Slung Coffee Tables](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/attraction-coffee-table.md) - [Harmonious Helical Coffee Tables](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/vortex-coffee-table.md) - [Wave-Inspired Coffee Tables](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/seahorse-coffee-table.md)
