# Butterfly-Like Furniture The Coffee Table by Rlos Design Has an Origami Aesthetic By Meghan Young | Published 2012-10-23 | Art & Design Source: Trend Hunter, https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/coffee-table-by-rlos-design References: [yankodesign](http://www.yankodesign.com/2012/10/19/butterflied-table/) & [rlos-design](http://www.rlos-design.com/) The Coffee Table by Rlos Design, a design firm based in Paris, France, and founded by Romain Duclos, looks as though it was inspired by a butterfly origami creation. The base of the table has a paper-like quality that, if it wasn't put into a living room context, could have led many to mistake it for a piece of dioramic furniture. Instead, the base is made out of folded sheets of metal rather than paper. Topped with a [round slab of glass](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/zen-collection-1), the Coffee Table by Rlos Design may have a funky silhouette, but its clean-lines ground it. The two-toned metal material adds a nice detail as well. A treat for the eyes, the multi-faceted nature of the coffee table gives it a [sculptural element](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/interactive-transformation-table) that would be appreciated in many modern homes. ## Trend Insights (Trend Hunter) - Score: 2.7/10 - Popularity: 59% | Activity: 13% | Freshness: 8% - Audience gender: 50% men, 50% women - Primary generations: Millennial, Gen X - Top markets: Europe ## Categories [Trend Hunter](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends) > [Art & Design](https://www.trendhunter.com/artdesign) > [Design](https://www.trendhunter.com/design) ## Key Themes ### What Makes This Trend Stand Out - **Butterfly-inspired Furniture:** Opportunity to incorporate origami aesthetics into furniture design for a unique and artistic touch. - **Origami-inspired Decor:** Growing trend of using origami-inspired designs in home decor for a contemporary and artistic look. - **Multi-faceted Coffee Tables:** Innovative coffee table designs with multifaceted shapes that add a sculptural element to modern homes. ### Sectors Adopting This - **Furniture Design:** Disruptive innovation opportunity to create furniture pieces inspired by origami and butterfly-like structures. - **Home Decor:** Opportunity for incorporating origami-inspired designs into home decor items, such as wall art and lighting fixtures. - **Interior Design:** Growing demand for unique and sculptural coffee tables that serve as focal points in modern interior designs. ## Related on Trend Hunter - [Wavy Sculptural Coffee Tables](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/sculptural-coffee-tables.md) - [Japandi-Style Coffee Tables](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/cloth-coffee-table.md) - [Dynamic Coffee Table Concepts](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/ryb-coffee-table.md) - [Fabric-Like Side Tables](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/tablecloth-side-table.md) - [Fluid Topographic Coffee Tables](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/dune-table.md) - [Harmonious Helical Coffee Tables](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/vortex-coffee-table.md) - [Low-Scaled Coffee Furniture](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/r24.md) - [Bent Steel Coffee Tables](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/creu-coffee-table.md) - [Luxe Low-Slung Coffee Tables](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/attraction-coffee-table.md)
