# Adaptable Eco Furnishings The Clever and Convenient Coffee Set Functions as Both Stool and Table By Amelia Roblin | Published 2013-03-28 | Eco Source: Trend Hunter, https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/coffee-set-by-stefano-merlo References: [behance.net](http://www.behance.net/gallery/Coffee-set/2794661) & [stefanomerlo](http://www.stefanomerlo.com/coffeeset) With so many brilliant design ideas out there, it almost seems a waste to purchase a piece of furniture that only serves one purpose -- unless it performs exceptionally well. The Coffee Set by Stefano Merlo is a wonderful example of a versatile object that can accommodate the placement of items, as well as support a sitter. The [100% recyclable cork component](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/forest-for-the-trees) can act as a [simple stool](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/rio-pouffe) all on its own. Alternatively, a metal ring can be easily installed on top of it to expand its horizontal surface. With the broader circle attached, the piece becomes a side table, working particularly well as a coffee table. The bark-derived material is left exposed in the middle of the Coffee Set, absorbing the heat of a teapot or a kettle like a built-in trivet. ## Trend Insights (Trend Hunter) - Score: 5.0/10 - Popularity: 88% | Activity: 53% | Freshness: 8% - Audience gender: 50% men, 50% women - Primary generations: Gen Z, Millennial, Gen X - Top markets: North America, Europe ## Categories [Trend Hunter](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends) > [Eco](https://www.trendhunter.com/eco) ## Key Themes ### Why This Trend Is Growing - **Adaptable Furnishings:** The trend of creating multi-functional pieces of furniture that are versatile and can serve multiple purposes to fit various needs and preferences. - **Eco-friendly Design:** The trend of incorporating eco-friendly materials and recyclable elements into designs to reduce the environmental impact of products. - **Minimalist Aesthetic:** The trend of creating furniture pieces with simple and clean design, with limited ornamentation and a focus on functionality. ### Industries Being Reshaped - **Furniture:** The furniture industry can utilize the concepts of adaptable furnishings, eco-friendly design and minimalist aesthetic to cater to the needs of consumers who value flexibility, sustainability and elegant simplicity. - **Interior Design:** The interior design industry can incorporate Adaptable Furnishings, Eco-Friendly Design, and Minimalist Aesthetic trends in creating functional and beautiful living spaces that are sustainable and customizable to fit clients' unique lifestyles and preferences. - **Hospitality:** The hospitality industry can adopt Adaptable Furnishings, Eco-Friendly Design and Minimalist Aesthetic to create sleek, minimal-looking spaces that can accommodate various needs, providing comfort and convenience for guests while reducing overall environmental impact. ## Related on Trend Hunter - [Stackable Cork-Made Furniture](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/modular-cork-seating.md) - [Sustainable Colorful Multifunctional Furniture](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/superpop.md) - [Cork Coaster-Integrated Coffee Tables](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/polka-coffee-table.md) - [Bent Multi-Functional Coffee Tables](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/the-shell-table.md) - [Sustainable Chrome Furniture](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/cork-collection.md) - [Bookshelf-Incorporated Coffee Tables](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/overlap-table.md) - [Artful Coffee Table Concepts](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/vertushka.md) - [Recycled Aluminum Furniture Pieces](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/joy-stool-one.md) - [Transformative Clover Stools](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/clover-collective-modular.md)
