The program has been launched in the UK, France, Spain, Austria, The Netherlands and Belgium, and will allow consumers to send in their used pods for recycling or drop them off at a designated location. The capsules will be recycled into construction materials or even outdoor furniture, while the coffee ground will be sent to a composting plant. CEO of Illycaffè Massimiliano Pogliani explained more on the coffee capsule recycling program partnership saying, "We want to offer our customers the opportunity of making a cup of espresso at home using environmentally friendly capsules. For this reason, together with TerraCycle, we developed a circular economy programme that allows us to collect and give new life to both [plastic and aluminum capsules](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/lavazza-nespresso-capsules), without any additional costs or hassle for consumers; we will take care of the entire process together with our partner.” Image Credit: Illy ## Trend Insights (Trend Hunter) - Score: 5.6/10 - Popularity: 72% | Activity: 87% | Freshness: 9% - Audience gender: 50% men, 50% women - Primary generations: Millennial, Gen X - Top markets: Europe ## Categories [Trend Hunter](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends) > [Eco](https://www.trendhunter.com/eco) ## Key Themes ### What's Driving This Trend - **Coffee Capsule Recycling:** Disruptive innovation opportunity: Developing innovative recycling technologies and partnerships to address the environmental impact of disposable coffee pods. - **Circular Economy Programs:** Disruptive innovation opportunity: Creating circular economy initiatives that encourage responsible and sustainable consumption through recycling and upcycling. - **Sustainable Packaging Solutions:** Disruptive innovation opportunity: Designing and implementing sustainable packaging options that reduce waste and promote eco-friendly practices. ### Who This Affects Most - **Coffee Manufacturing:** Disruptive innovation opportunity: Collaborating with recycling companies to create closed-loop systems for coffee capsule waste, minimizing environmental impact. - **Waste Management and Recycling:** Disruptive innovation opportunity: Developing advanced recycling technologies for coffee capsules and partnering with coffee companies to implement effective recycling programs. - **Furniture and Construction:** Disruptive innovation opportunity: Exploring innovative methods to repurpose recycled coffee capsules in the production of construction materials and outdoor furniture. ## Related on Trend Hunter - [Coffee Pod Recycling Programs](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/fcc-environmental.md) - [Pod Recycling Programs](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/aldi-3.md) - [Coffee Pod Recycling Centres](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/podback.md) - [Recyclable Paper-Made Coffee Packaging](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/recyclable-coffee-packaging.md) - [Recycled Coffee Pod-Made Bicycles](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/recycle.md) - [Compostable Instant Coffee Pods](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/natureworks.md) - [Single-Serve Coffee Tabs](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/lavazza-tabli.md) - [Recyclable Aluminum Coffee Pods](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/recyclable-aluminum-coffee-pods.md) - [Coffee Pod Recycling Tools](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/coffee-pod-recycling-tool.md)
