In the meantime, the structure preserves the ow-lying landscape’s natural contours. The design for the Van der Vlugt Residence incorporates board-formed concrete that flows from the [rugged exterior into interior spaces](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/standing-wave-house), creating striking visual contrasts. Passive cooling strategies include floor-to-ceiling windows for natural light and strategically placed louvres for shading. The property has also achieved [100% solar-powered operation](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/campos-studio) for over 1200 hours and net-zero energy consumption for 31 days in a single year. A spiral staircase wrapped in cool gray microcement acts as the architectural joint where the home’s curvature meets its axis, mimicking the site’s waterfront boundary.
