# Al Fresco Oenophile Servers The Coalesce Picnic System is a Sophisticated Set of Outdoor Dishes By Amelia Roblin | Published 2012-10-14 | Art & Design Source: Trend Hunter, https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/coalesce-picnic-system References: [industrialdesignserved](http://www.industrialdesignserved.com/gallery/coalesce-picnic-system/3710154) & [behance.net](http://www.behance.net/PhilipStankard) The incorporation of wine makes many activities instantly classier but the Coalesce Picnic System has a sophisticated quality all of its own. The mod looking sleeve contains a pair of [metal platters](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/thermal-serving-dish) that are complete with keyhole notches for [holding a glass of vino](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/the-splitglass) each. Exquisite [sculptural metal forms the unique plates](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/iitala), flaunting patterns that mimic the stringy surface of the silicone case. This open outer layer provides a place to stash serviettes, a blanket and other items, in addition to serving up enhanced visual interest. The shallow canary yellow cover can also be used as trays. Designer Philip Stankard created the Coalesce Picnic System based on inspiration from artist Sole LeWitt's work, and primarily for use at Madison's Concerts on the Square. ## Trend Insights (Trend Hunter) - Score: 4.2/10 - Popularity: 50% | Activity: 67% | Freshness: 8% - Audience gender: 50% men, 50% women - Primary generations: Millennial, Gen X - Top markets: North America ## Categories [Trend Hunter](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends) > [Art & Design](https://www.trendhunter.com/artdesign) > [Design](https://www.trendhunter.com/design) ## Key Themes ### Key Themes Behind This Trend - **Luxury Picnic Sets:** Opportunity for outdoor dining industry to cater to high-end customers with sophisticated picnic sets. - **Wine and Dining Experience:** Opportunity for innovation in wine and food industry by creating products that elevate experiential dining. - **Design-inspired Serveware:** Opportunity for the serveware industry to create sculptural, visually interesting pieces that also serve a functional purpose. ### Where This Applies - **Outdoor Dining:** The trend of luxury picnic sets presents new opportunities for outdoor dining companies to cater to high-end customers. - **Wine and Food:** The trend of creating a sophisticated wine and dining experience creates new opportunities for innovation in the wine and food industry. - **Serveware:** The design-inspired serveware trend presents an opportunity for the serveware industry to create visually interesting pieces with functional purposes. ## Related on Trend Hunter - [Wine-Catered Vibrant Artful Tables](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/wine-table.md) - [Chic Stackable Tableware Collections](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/tableware-ecosystem.md) - [Cup-Integrated Plates](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/pairingware.md) - [On-the-Go Wine Accessories](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/ultimate-wine-bundle.md) - [Colorful Outdoor Drinkware](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/outdoor-drinkware.md) - [Elevated Aperitivo Sets](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/aperitivo-set.md) - [Multifunctional Park Picnic Furniture](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/foldable-picnic-furniture.md) - [Reusable Folding Storage Plates](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/calzone-tableware.md) - [Opulent Automotive Picnic Accessories](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/bentley-home-hyde.md)
