# Whimsical Storage Systems The Clown Bookshelf by Andrey Zyomko Plays a Literal Balancing Act By Amelia Roblin | Published 2011-11-04 | Art & Design Source: Trend Hunter, https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/clown-bookshelf-by-andrey-zyomko References: [behance.net](http://www.behance.net/gallery/Clown-bookshelf/845584) When you purchase a piece of furniture, generally the question of whether or not it will fall over should never come to mind. Observing the Clown Bookshelf by Andrey Zyomko, however, you might be inclined to ask if a six-foot stack of books is more stable. This is part of the enchanting character of this [playful object](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/the-eternal-child). Its top portion looks just like your run-of-the-mill bookcase, but it seems to have been placed precariously on top of three other unusual forms. At the bottom of the [topsy-turvy tower](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/collection-co) is a triangular prism, set securely on its rectangular base. A flat square panel rests on the sharp edge of the shape below and carries a hollow cylinder that looks ready to roll off. The Clown Bookshelf by Andrey Zyomko would be built with [balanced precision](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/ratio-series), offering only the eyes a lighthearted delight. ## Trend Insights (Trend Hunter) - Score: 2.0/10 - Popularity: 30% | Activity: 23% | Freshness: 8% - Audience gender: 50% men, 50% women - Primary generations: Gen Z, Gen Alpha - Top markets: Europe ## Categories [Trend Hunter](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends) > [Art & Design](https://www.trendhunter.com/artdesign) > [Design](https://www.trendhunter.com/design) ## Key Themes ### What's Driving This Trend - **Playful Furniture Designs:** Opportunity for furniture designers to create unconventional pieces that add an element of playfulness and whimsy to home decor. - **Balancing Act Decor:** Trend towards home decor items that challenge the laws of balance and gravity, creating a sense of playful unpredictability. - **Sculptural Storage Solutions:** Growing interest in storage systems that serve not only functional needs, but double as eye-catching sculptural pieces. ### Who This Affects Most - **Furniture Design:** Opportunity for furniture designers to create unique, unconventional designs that appeal to those looking to integrate a sense of playfulness and fun into their living spaces. - **Home Decor:** Growing market for home decor items that go beyond functional needs and serve as visually striking conversation starters in homes and spaces. - **Interior Design:** New opportunities for interior designers to integrate playful, sculptural, and unconventional storage solutions as focal points in their designs. ## Related on Trend Hunter - [Abstract Jigsaw-Like Shelving](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/spectator-shelf.md) - [Sliding Wintery Landscape Bookshelves](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/manhwabang-bookshelf.md) - [Book-Storing Side Tables](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/bookgroove-bookrack.md) - [Jigsaw Puzzle-Inspired Furniture](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/puzzle-shelf.md) - [Toy Block-Inspired Wooden Bookshelves](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/rotating-picture-book.md) - [Video Game-Like Bookcases](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/tetris-bookcase.md) - [Twisting CGI-Designed Sideboards](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/bookscrew-sideboard.md) - [Sculptural Bookshelves Designs](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/sculptural-bookshelf.md) - [Dynamic Geometric Bookshelves](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/cheft.md)
