# Inflated Cloud Umbrellas The Innovative Cumulus Parasol Simulates the Look of a Real Cloud By M | Published 2014-07-30 | Art & Design Source: Trend Hunter, https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/cloud-umbrella References: [technabob](http://technabob.com/blog/2014/07/29/cumulus-parasol-cloud-umbrella/) & [studiotoer](http://www.studiotoer.com/cumulus) The Cumulus Parasol is a stylish [outdoor patio cloud umbrella](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/novara) that makes you feel like you're always under the shade of a [white fluffy cloud](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/cloud-tables1). Netherlands design studio Toer recently designed this creative umbrella that replicates the aesthetic look of a real cloud. The idea is that the Cumulus Parasol starts out flat and deflated and naturally self-inflates using the sun's rays. The Cumulus Parasol is able to harness the sun's energy to self-inflate through the integrated solar panels featured on the top of this white umbrella. The solar energy powers up a fan built inside the parasol that blows the cloud up in under 20 seconds. This way you're always under the shade of a simulated cloud whenever it's sunny out. The Cumulus Parasol would be a great design piece to have in your backyard. ## Trend Insights (Trend Hunter) - Score: 4.6/10 - Popularity: 70% | Activity: 61% | Freshness: 8% - Audience gender: 30% men, 70% women - Primary generations: Millennial, Gen X - Top markets: North America ## Categories [Trend Hunter](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends) > [Art & Design](https://www.trendhunter.com/artdesign) > [Design](https://www.trendhunter.com/design) ## Key Themes ### Key Themes Behind This Trend - **Solar-powered Outdoor Products:** The integrated solar panels in Cumulus Parasol present opportunities for solar-powered outdoor products - **Aesthetic Replication in Design:** The Cumulus Parasol's replication of real cloud aesthetic may inspire future designs that replicate natural elements - **Innovative Outdoor Umbrellas:** Cumulus Parasol has disrupted the traditional outdoor umbrella market through its unique design and solar-powered inflating mechanism ### Where This Applies - **Outdoor Furniture:** The Cumulus Parasol presents an innovative opportunity for outdoor furniture companies to incorporate unique designs and solar-powered technology into their products - **Renewable Energy:** The integration of solar panels in Cumulus Parasol displays the potential for wider use of renewable energy in various industries - **Creative and Novelty Products:** Cumulus Parasol blurs the lines between art and function, presenting opportunities for creative and novelty product design ## Related on Trend Hunter - [Connected Dual Functioning Umbrellas](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/hulasol.md) - [Flying Umbrella Prototypes](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/flying-umbrella.md) - [Space-Inspired Folding Umbrellas](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/bloombrella.md) - [Umbrella-Resembling Playful Lamps](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/rain-man-lamp.md) - [Light-Equipped Outdoor Sun Covers](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/led-starry-night-sun-shade.md) - [Umbrella-Inspired Whimsical Lamps](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/wasaga-lamp.md) - [Sturdy Heat Relief Umbrellas](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/aliz-umbrella.md) - [Large Outdoor Parasol Shades](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/mega-max.md) - [Organic Cloud-Like Lamps](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/khmara.md)
