Traveling the length of the narrow ceiling in the hallway of the Boffo Show House, an arts and culture non-profit organization in New York that fosters collaborations between artists, designers, communities, theorists, and the media for experiments in living, it ushers guests inside in a wondrous manner. Made up of 200 tubes and LED nodes attached to 16 wooden discs, the Cloud by Focus Lighting is equipped with infrared sensors that read movement beneath it. Once detected, it triggers one of twelve unique looks as people travel underneath the ceiling light. The principal designer, Brett Andersen, says, "We wanted to use light to create a welcoming and memorable experience for each visitor." ## Trend Insights (Trend Hunter) - Score: 3.4/10 - Popularity: 55% | Activity: 40% | Freshness: 8% - Audience gender: 50% men, 50% women - Primary generations: Millennial, Gen X - Top markets: North America, Europe, Asia ## Categories [Trend Hunter](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends) > [Art & Design](https://www.trendhunter.com/artdesign) > [Design](https://www.trendhunter.com/design) ## Key Themes ### Key Themes Behind This Trend - **Color-shifting Lighting:** Disruptive innovation opportunity: Develop customizable color-shifting lighting systems for retail stores to enhance the shopping experience. - **Interactive Light Fixtures:** Disruptive innovation opportunity: Design interactive light fixtures for public spaces to create unique and engaging environments. - **Sensor-activated Lighting:** Disruptive innovation opportunity: Explore sensor-activated lighting solutions for residential homes to improve energy efficiency. ### Where This Applies - **Hospitality:** Disruptive innovation opportunity: Implement color-shifting lighting in hotel lobbies to create a captivating and immersive atmosphere. - **Architecture and Design:** Disruptive innovation opportunity: Integrate interactive light fixtures in building facades to transform urban spaces into interactive art installations. - **Home Decor:** Disruptive innovation opportunity: Develop sensor-activated lighting systems for home decor to provide personalized lighting experiences for consumers. ## Related on Trend Hunter - [Dynamic Artful Light Fixtures](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/ghost-chandelier.md) - [Futuristic Immersive Lighting Experiences](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/immersive-lighting-experience.md) - [Stunningly Intricate Light Installations](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/shapes-of-light.md) - [Illuminated Curtained Light Installations](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/making-the-invisible-visible.md) - [Wonderous Art Installations](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/your-psychoacoustic-light-ensemble.md) - [Glowing Tubular Light Fixtures](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/array-lighting.md) - [Dazzling Gradient Lighting Systems](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/star-bulb.md) - [Illusory Multidimensional Lamps](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/drop-light.md) - [Otherworldly Lighting Fixture Designs](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/otherworldly-lighting-fixture.md)
