# Panoramic Cliffside Dwellings The Cliffside House Looks Towards Loch Dunvegan By Vasiliki Marapas | Published 2014-05-07 | Art & Design Source: Trend Hunter, https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/cliffside-house References: [dezeen](http://www.dezeen.com/2014/05/04/cliff-house-by-dualchas/) & [dualchas](http://www.dualchas.com/) Location is everything when it comes to this [cliffside house](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/casa-yuri) by Dualchas Architects. The home is located on the spectacular coast of Scotland’s Isle of Skye, offering panoramic views of Loch Dunvegan. The view is undoubtedly the highlight of this [single-storey home](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/hameart-project). In terms of configuration, the house is comprised of two connected volumes. One volume is comfortably settled into the mountainous topography, while the other is opened out towards the view. Inside the house, the rafters expose a height discrepancy between the two volumes, a discordance that allowed the architects to add [clerestory windows](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/big-sky-beach-house). This decision helps maximize natural light of the home. Further explaining their vision, the architects note that the concept of contradiction expressed in the home, “is not only a reminder of the isolation and mystery of its location but also of the rarity of being able to live amongst the drama of the ever-changing atmospheric conditions in this part of the world.” ## Trend Insights (Trend Hunter) - Score: 5.5/10 - Popularity: 93% | Activity: 63% | Freshness: 8% - Audience gender: 50% men, 50% women - Primary generations: Millennial, Gen X - Top markets: North America, Europe, Asia ## Categories [Trend Hunter](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends) > [Art & Design](https://www.trendhunter.com/artdesign) > [Design](https://www.trendhunter.com/design) ## Key Themes ### What Makes This Trend Stand Out - **Panoramic Cliffside Living:** Creating homes that offer breathtaking panoramic views in unique and scenic locations, allowing residents to fully immerse themselves in the natural surroundings. - **Connected Volumes:** Designing homes with multiple volumes that are strategically connected to maximize views and create a dynamic living space. - **Maximizing Natural Light:** Incorporating clever design elements such as clerestory windows to optimize the use of natural light inside homes. ### Sectors Adopting This - **Architecture and Real Estate:** Expanding the boundaries of architectural design to create unique, cliffside homes that offer unparalleled views and experiences for potential buyers. - **Tourism and Hospitality:** Developing luxury accommodations in scenic locations that attract tourists seeking immersive experiences and breathtaking views. - **Interior Design:** Creating innovative interior spaces that harmonize with the natural surroundings and maximize the use of natural light in cliffside homes. ## Related on Trend Hunter - [Off-Grid Oceanside Homes](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/campos-studio.md) - [Coastal Island Homes](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/pasparakisfriel.md) - [Natural Material Scottish Cottages](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/iorram.md) - [Mountain Family Homes](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/skyview-house.md) - [Cliffside Minimalist Retreats](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/aip-azia-villa.md) - [Hillside Family Homes](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/sky-house-1.md) - [Modern Highland Residential Projects](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/house-in-the-andes.md) - [Hilltop Modern Retreats](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/the-cloud-house.md) - [Meadow-Overlooking Sleek Homes](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/studioac-1.md)
