# Intentionally Distorted Carved Cabinets Ferruccio Laviani Carves a Clever Illusion into His Work By Kyle Towers | Published 2013-03-15 | Art & Design Source: Trend Hunter, https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/clever-illusion References: [neatorama](http://www.neatorama.com/2013/03/14/Hand-Carved-Glitch/) & [laviani](http://www.laviani.com/ENG/ENG/lavianibio.php) At first sight, this cabinet by Ferruccio Laviani may just look like a not-so-clever illusion or trick of photography. In actuality, the artist has intentionally carved this distorted look right into the cabinet. Ferruccio has showed incredible ability and concentration in order to pull this off. It is much more difficult to achieve this brilliantly skewed piece of furniture than to make a perfectly sound one. Just looking at the precision of the [wavy and slanted lines](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/touch-collections), which somehow possess complete symmetry, really makes you appreciate the genius this man possesses -- especially to a piece with such intricate detail. Now, whether or not this [clever illusion cabinet](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/ripples-collection) is functional isn't much of an illusion. However, the furniture is perfect as a [piece of art](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/siembra-capsule). ## Trend Insights (Trend Hunter) - Score: 1.4/10 - Popularity: 21% | Activity: 14% | Freshness: 8% - Audience gender: 50% men, 50% women - Primary generations: Millennial, Gen X - Top markets: North America, Europe ## Categories [Trend Hunter](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends) > [Art & Design](https://www.trendhunter.com/artdesign) > [Furniture](https://www.trendhunter.com/furniture) ## Key Themes ### Why This Trend Is Growing - **Intentionally-distorted Furniture:** Disruptive innovation opportunity: Explore new ways to intentionally distort common furniture pieces to create unique and visually captivating designs. - **Illusionary Design:** Disruptive innovation opportunity: Apply optical illusion techniques to product design to create visually intriguing and deceptive outcomes. - **Intricate Detailing:** Disruptive innovation opportunity: Develop innovative techniques and technologies to create intricate detailing in furniture and other products. ### Industries Being Reshaped - **Furniture Manufacturing:** Disruptive innovation opportunity: Incorporate intentional distortions and illusionary elements into furniture manufacturing processes to create unique and eye-catching pieces. - **Interior Design:** Disruptive innovation opportunity: Explore the use of intentionally distorted furniture and illusionary design techniques to create immersive and visually compelling interior spaces. - **Art and Sculpture:** Disruptive innovation opportunity: Fuse traditional art and sculpture techniques with modern design principles to create innovative artworks that play with viewers' perceptions. ## Related on Trend Hunter - [Geometric Sculpture Boxes](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/illusion-box.md) - [Glass Surfaced Furniture Series](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/illusion-collection.md) - [Offset Shelf Sideboards](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/crazy-slice-sideboard-concept.md) - [Twisting CGI-Designed Sideboards](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/bookscrew-sideboard.md) - [Tropical Island-Inspired Cabinets](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/weaver-cabinet.md) - [Dynamic Moving-Illusion Furniture](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/moving-furniture.md) - [Realistic Sketch-Reflective Furniture](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/drawing-series.md) - [Forest-Inspired Wooden Cabinets](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/hayashi-cabinet.md) - [Illusory Doorway Mirrors](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/panis-mirror.md)
