# Amusing Malleable Tabletops Claytable by Erwin Zwiers is a Surface for Sculpting, Not Snacking By Amelia Roblin | Published 2012-01-10 | Life-Stages Source: Trend Hunter, https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/claytable-by-erwin-zwiers References: [industrialdesignserved](http://www.industrialdesignserved.com/gallery/Claytable/1643096) The concept of the craft table is explored rather imaginatively in the Claytable by Erwin Zwiers. From afar it might appear to resemble a typical kitchen table, but a close look and a curious touch will furnish an unusual hybrid object made from an unconventional pairing of materials. Rectilinear aluminum legs support a sleek metal tabletop; however, the surface of the burnished silver material remains unseen. The peculiar piece of furniture has been blanketed in a thick layer of bright red molding clay, the sort that's safe and fun for kids at play. Of course, many of the activities that one might be accustomed to carrying out at dining table of comparable dimensions are best not undertaken on the Claytable by Erwin Zwiers. The designer recommends it as an artsy entertainment station, ideal for preschools and waiting rooms. ## Trend Insights (Trend Hunter) - Score: 3.4/10 - Popularity: 78% | Activity: 17% | Freshness: 8% - Audience gender: 50% men, 50% women - Primary generations: Gen Z, Gen Alpha - Top markets: Europe ## Categories [Trend Hunter](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends) > [Life-Stages](https://www.trendhunter.com/life-stages) > [Youth](https://www.trendhunter.com/youth) ## Key Themes ### Why This Trend Is Growing - **Malleable Tabletops:** Opportunity for creating innovative furniture pieces that incorporate unconventional materials and textures. - **Craft Tables:** Potential for designing tables with specific functionalities for creative activities and entertainment. - **Artistic Entertainment Stations:** Disruptive innovation opportunity in creating interactive and engaging furniture for preschools and waiting rooms. ### Industries Being Reshaped - **Furniture Design:** Opportunity in the furniture industry to explore unconventional materials, such as molding clay, and combine them with functional designs. - **Preschool Education:** Disruptive innovation opportunity for preschools to incorporate interactive and artistic furniture pieces into their learning environments. - **Hospitality:** Potential for waiting rooms and entertainment areas in hotels and resorts to incorporate unique and visually engaging furniture that offers interactive experiences. ## Related on Trend Hunter - [Clay-Covered Outdoor Furniture](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/nendo-kasane-33-clay-table.md) - [Dynamic Sculptural Tables](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/interactive-transformation-table.md) - [Fabric-Like Side Tables](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/tablecloth-side-table.md) - [Puzzling Removable Tray Tables](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/conceptual-puzzle-table.md) - [Squishy Clay-Made Daybeds](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/soft-soil-daybed.md) - [Playful Wavy Table Designs](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/wavy-table-design.md) - [Wavy Sculptural Coffee Tables](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/sculptural-coffee-tables.md) - [Interlocking Puzzle-Like Tables](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/connect-table.md) - [Curvaceous Abstract Side Tables](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/pet-table.md)
