# Famous Vehicle Robot Makeovers Darren Rawlings Imagines TVs and Movie's Classic Vehicles as Robots By Allen Taylor | Published 2014-03-19 | Art & Design Source: Trend Hunter, https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/classic-vehicles References: [rawlsy.deviantart](http://rawlsy.deviantart.com/gallery/) & [thinkmorestudios](http://www.thinkmorestudios.com/) Illustrator Darren Rawlings imagined what some classic vehicles from TV shows and movies would look like if they were really robots in disguise. Did you ever want to see the Mystery Machine from Scooby-Doo transform and kick some villain butt? Or how about seeing the Ecto-1 from Ghostbusters catch some spirits itself? Rawlings must have been thinking those same questions; the illustrations bring a bunch of childhood fantasies to reality. If every [famous vehicle](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/romero-britto) was able to enter the [Transformers universe](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/transformers-reversible-plushies), Rawlings would surely be on target with his designs. Other illustrations include the Gran Torino, Mach V from Speed Racer, Back to the Future's Delorean, The Dukes of Hazzard's General Lee, Kitt from Knight Rider, The Ninja Turtle Party Wagon and even The Love Bug Herbie. ## Trend Insights (Trend Hunter) - Score: 5.0/10 - Popularity: 83% | Activity: 59% | Freshness: 8% - Audience gender: 50% men, 50% women - Primary generations: Gen Z, Gen Alpha, Millennial, Gen X - Top markets: North America ## Categories [Trend Hunter](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends) > [Art & Design](https://www.trendhunter.com/artdesign) > [Design](https://www.trendhunter.com/design) ## Key Themes ### Why This Trend Is Growing - **Vehicle-to-robot Conversion Trend:** The trend of converting famous vehicles into robots is disrupting the entertainment industry and presents possibilities for merchandise and licensing opportunities. - **Nostalgia-based Innovation Trend:** The trend of bringing nostalgic vehicles to life as robots is disrupting the toy and collectible industries, providing opportunities for new product lines and revenue streams. - **Classic Character Revival Trend:** The trend of transforming classic vehicles into robots is disrupting the animation and film industries, providing opportunities to introduce new takes on beloved characters and franchises. ### Industries Being Reshaped - **Toy Industry:** The toy industry could benefit from the trend of bringing nostalgic vehicles to life by creating action figures and playsets based on these transformed vehicles. - **Entertainment Industry:** The entertainment industry could benefit from the trend of transforming classic vehicles into robots by using them as a basis for new show concepts and/or movies. - **Automotive Industry:** The automotive industry could benefit from the trend of vehicle-to-robot conversions by creating collector cars that transform into robots, appealing to both car enthusiasts and toy collectors alike. ## Related on Trend Hunter - [Custom-Built Sci-Fi Series Motorcycles](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/bumblebee-bike.md) - [Futuristic Supercar Designs](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/custom-vehicle-designs.md) - [80s-Inspired Electric Vehicles](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/delorean-e.md) - [Sci-Fi-Themed Cars](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/volkswagen-2.md) - [Retro Off-Road Electric Vehicles](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/delorean-concept.md) - [Sci-Fi Electric Vans](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/volkswagen-van.md) - [Modern Electrified Retro Automobiles](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/two8esl.md) - [Retro-Futuristic Sports Cars](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/delorean-cyberpunk-concept.md) - [Road-Ready Dune Buggy Concepts](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/fordzilla-hypervan.md)
