The structure is intended to represent cultural significance, as well as illustrate the local government's future commitments. The architects designed an extension to an existing double-storey facility. The building's physical form -- the lotus shape -- was borne out of a need to ensure the structure had an original presence. The architects explain, "The development, ultimately, seeks to generate participation, to build an ownership of place that builds ties to the community and entices its people to stay and flourish and not to be drawn away." The structure, which appears to be emerging from the lake, is entered from underneath. Visitors are then enveloped in a cathedral-like space with a [luminescent atmosphere](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/osmanthus-moon). ## Trend Insights (Trend Hunter) - Score: 1.9/10 - Popularity: 38% | Activity: 10% | Freshness: 8% - Audience gender: 50% men, 50% women - Primary generations: Millennial, Gen X - Top markets: North America, Europe, Asia ## Categories [Trend Hunter](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends) > [Art & Design](https://www.trendhunter.com/artdesign) > [Design](https://www.trendhunter.com/design) ## Key Themes ### What's Driving This Trend - **Civic Landmarks:** Opportunity for creating iconic structures that represent cultural significance and community ties. - **Architectural Extensions:** Potential for designing unique building additions that have an original presence. - **Luminous Atmosphere:** Emerging trend of creating spaces with a captivating and glowing ambiance. ### Who This Affects Most - **Architecture and Design:** Opportunity for firms to innovate in creating civic landmarks with cultural significance and community engagement. - **Construction:** Potential for constructing architectural extensions that stand out and contribute to the urban landscape. - **Lighting and Illumination:** Growing market for technologies and solutions that enhance luminous atmospheres in architectural spaces. ## Related on Trend Hunter - [Lotus Flower-Inspired Villas](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/lotus-villa.md) - [Floral Architecture Floating Restaurants](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/nelumbo.md) - [Ring-Shaped Open-Air Amphitheaters](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/luhu-ring-of-starlight.md) - [Lake-Overlooking Tiled Pavilions](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/jinji-lake-pavilion.md) - [Serene Waterfront Pavilions](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/lake-house-life-experience-pavilion.md) - [Tranquil Round Pavilions](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/the-round-pavilion.md) - [Tea-Honoring Angular Libraries](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/atelier-xi-2.md) - [Everchanging Water-Based Theaters](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/yichang-grand-theatre.md) - [Lighthouse-Functioning Concrete Structures](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/concrete-pavilion.md)
